Hi everyone,
just a couple of questions about your dear corvette $$.
First I want to thank everybody here for all the tips given here and there on the forum 'cause I've been reading everything I could find about the vette $$ for the last three weeks (at least...)!
Since there aren't any official Warwick dealer in Belgium and I can't find any shop which has Warwicks in stock (or very few and I never saw a $$ anywhere), I didn't have any occasion yet to try one. Anyway, the thing is I'm going to Music store in Köln on saturday to try it at last. I've heard lots of good things from you in all the topics about its powerful sound and all, but I just wanted to know if you could also get a brilliant sound out of it (you know a bit like Flea's). As it's a very versatile bass I guess it can but I wanted you advice.

Second question is about the Ovangkol body (custom), is there a great sound diference and a great price difference, I love the finish and if the sound's better... (this question is especially for Malk who is the happy owner of one of these beauties).

Just a last one.... I know it's a popular and already well answered topic but feel free to give your advice: COLOR! which one? I was hesitating between black and red then I fell in love with Blockrocker's tobacco finsh ()

Welcome to the forum man, here comes:

1 I don't have experience with the Corvette $$ (somehow I assumed you were talking about the Bolt On version; not many people have the NT version yet.....), so I cannot say anything about whether you can get a brilliant tone out of it. Indeed, Malk has got one, so you can ask him; you can give him a PM (Private Message) as well........

2 There should be a huge sound difference, but then again, Malk is da man to respond to this topic. The reason why I nevertheless respond to you is because I have some things to mention as well: getting a custom Ovangkol Corvette may be affordable, but definitely more expensive. I think for that money you can get a Corvette Neck Through as well. I'm not saying that the NT version is better than the Corvettes you mentioned; I'm just letting you know of the possibilities.

3 Remember: a black or red Corvette don't need to be waxed; a natural Ovangkol, however, needs to be waxed once in a while (which is addictive to be honest :D )
My opinion is that coloured Ash (Corvette $$, BO) don't look that good compared to coloured maple (Corvette Proline); therefore I would choose black. It's also more "neutral" than red...............

Hello Thib, welcome to the forum, mon ami :-)

The $$ is a very versatile instrument, so you can get a large variety of sounds with it. But, if you go to Koeln, just try more of them and see wich one will sound closer to the sound in your head. If you like the flea sound, it is possible you will like a thumb IMHO :-) Just plug the bass and play, with controls set on flat, and se wich one is yours.

I owned a $$ (actually it's still at home but in a big package, ready to get picked up by UPS tomorrow) and I must admit that comfort wise, that bass is a killer, but tone wise, I wasn't that happy... Way too boomy, undefined in the lows... I had to tweak the bass off on the amp, and still it was not enough.... Didn't have that problem with my Sandberg, so it comes from the bass, not the amp.

Otherwise, the bass is well built, and plays like a dream. That's why I hope my CS Streamer will keep that comfort but will have a much better sound...

hello and welcome :D
jumping right to my part of the post, yes there actually is a big sound difference..as Ian said, the ash $$ has almost too much bottom end, while the ovangkol body adds a lot of mids (and growl) and has a much tighter sound. as i already said, think about it as a really really hot thumb BO :D
regarding the price, i paid 1290 euros, hardshell case included :wink:
my advice?
struggle to find a shop with some W in stock and try both the stock $$ and the thumb BO..you might want to try the new bubinga NT $$ as well :wink:
don't worry..whichever bass you'll choose, it'll kick ass 8)
 
1290 Euro ?? :shock: (as in CHEAP!!)

For a CS Corvette $$ 4 string with Ovangkol body ??? How much does the standard Corvette $$ cost in Italy ???? Holy cow................ :shock:
 
Yeah that's cheap, but Malk only asked for another body wood, not other specific options...

when i bought the stock ash $$ in february '06, it was around 950€ :D

Malk, 1290€ for the ovangkol is cheap as the ash body natural finish is 970€ and 1100 for colored oil finish (red, black...) in Köln, and maybe worth the price! As it's my first Warwick I didn't intend to go custom but now I will consider it seriously! How about the waiting once she's ordered? not too long?

I don't know if they have $$ NT there.
As for the Thumb BO, I will definetly try it even though it's quite other price range and, I must admit, out of sound considerations, I liked the killer look of the $$ very much!!! :twisted:
 
In terms of sound I also like Tool's bassist sound (kinda brilliant also).
I'm a bit affraid when you speak about "ay too boomy, undefined in the lows" or "too much bottom end", I don't want a bass too heavy.
Anyway, I will be able to try all those beauties tomorrow!!! Can't wait! :D
 
long? that's the shortest custom shop delivery time since i'm on this forum :wink: some people had to wait 4 or 5 months, and even more :D

Wow :shock: ,

more TOOL fans !!! YEAH !!! Seriously, one of Warwick's trademark sounds, in my opinion, is the bright (many non Warwick players call it "harsh") tone produced due to the dense woods that are used; this really makes the bass cut through the mix (one of the reasons)........if you like Justin's sound*, I think you should dig Warwicks a lot too man...............have fun tomorrow !!!

*At least live, because I find the recording of the bass on the albums kinda/a bit dull (soundwise).........really.......... :cry:

I tried about 5 different Warwicks and the $$ just blew me away. Really powerful and versatile. Like Malk I've gone for Ovangkol (but with Nirvana Black Oil finish) to be a little more Thumb like . Ordered went through on the 20th Feb and it was finished this week (21st March) so pretty darn quick. Pictures will be posted when it arrives.
As for the price mine cost about the same as Malk's.
$$ is a great choice in my opinion but try some if you can. It's a very subjective thing....

I smell a conspiracy here......................all these people trying to persuade me into going CS.............I may give in boys and girls..........keep trying................. :wink:
 
thanks for the new tips, mates, it's really cool to be welcome this way in the great and immorta warwick players' family!
For CS basses do we have to order via our usual shop or can we order directly from Warwick (on this site it seems that we just can send inquiries but not orders)?
Anyway, I'll try series models tomorrow before going custom, that's just my first Warwick after all...
