OK guys, I have to decide between these two and I'm looking for some advice. I can go as high as $1500 or so and I really would like to get an unused base. Music123 has the Corvette Standard w/ active controlls listed for $1,039 but I have spoken with them and they will come off even a little more which is the best price I have found for the Standard w/ the active controls. I really like the Thumb also but they run about $1900+ but The 2003 Bleached Blonde Limited is available at Musicians Friend for $1500. It is really a nice looking base, but they won't come off the price. The price isn't really my concern as much as me wondering why they are still available new if they are a couple of years old and they only made 250 of them. As far as sound I want that Warwick signature "GROWL" as well as versatility from rock/funk to metal/jazz. I am only a hobbyist as of now and have played 6 strings for years. Bass is new to me but I can't put my throw down Soundgear bass down, so I can't wait to get Warwick. Any advice is very much appreciated.

Hi there!

I`ve only got experience with the Standard of these two and it`s certainly a great piece of bass, but what I`ve heard from the regular Thumb, this would most likely fill all your needs. THOUGH, I think it looks ass... :?
 
I say go with the limited edition Thumb. You can easily get a Corvette Standard any time you want. But a limited edition Warwick that was made in a small batch that may soon never be available again, except on the used market at crazy prices?

I say go for the Bleached Blonde Thumb. IMO it's one of the sexiest basses I've ever laid my eyes on.

And I'm sure it'll sound fantastic. I recently tried out a Corvette Doublebuck (swamp ash body, as opposed to bubinga) and every tone I dialed in sounded great.
 
SullenDoorNeal is right... That's a great deal for the Thumb LTD 2003 at Musician's Friend. Take advantage while you can!

did you write this because of the woods that are used for the maple Thumb or for some other reason ?..

I'm leaning towards the Blonde right now, and I will know by Wednesday. I'll post pics and reviews when I get it. More opoinons welcomed please.

I voted for the corvette because i own one. lol. But after thinking about it the thumb would be your best bet for the price.
 
Sound tho

Being all maple, will I be able to get a phat slap sound, as well as rock sounds? I guess I'm asking will this thing rock like a vette or regular thumeb being mostly maple?

Yes, woods are the reason!
 
This particular Thumb has been known for delivering a sharper sound and still having great mids. It's a bass for slapping because of the space in the pickups and the maple wood will deliver a very sharp sound with clear highs.

I felt in love with the Thumb, but I'm not a fan of maple.
I would vote for the standard Thumb ! The NT is the top but it is expensive, the BO is a very, very good bass.
 
As Oliver said, you will have a brighter sound with the Blonde Thumb.

If you don't want to sound too snappy, I'd shoot for an off-of-the-rack Thumb BO unless you want to go for the NT. Don't get me wrong, the Corvette is a great bass, but you might wind up kicking yourself in the a-- for not scoring the Thumb in the first place, until you finally buy one... or two. That's what happened to me.
 
Corvette $$

Well, I was limited by funding and I couldn't decide so I went with a 5 string $$ in natural. Should be here Monday and I'll post some pics.
