I have noticed at least 3 different electronics configurations over the years.

There is the Basslines pickups with Basslines pre-amp.

There is the MEC Pickups w/ exposed pole pieces (like MM) with the MEC Pre-amp.

There is the MEC pickpups and pre-amp on the 2004 LTD model.

Did I miss any?

Let's say a friend of mine would like to check one out used and this friend was searching on ebay. What configuration would he want to look for. What sounds the best? I know this is subjective, but tell me why you like the one you like.

This seems like an awesome bass. I found a newer on at a GC by me and was a little dissapointed, but I was also playing through a different amp and did not take a long time with it. I found it did not have much growl. I like the growl, but the growl is not the only fish in the sea.

Is one of these configurations more versatal (read Growly and non-growly) than the other. I had read a review one time that said the Basslines pre-amp stunk!

I have a recent (2005) model, MEC 3 band EQ & the exposed pole pu's and it's got some serious growl. I really like my amp though, so I'm biased on this one. Actually, it's more like a snarl than a growl....
