corvette basic question. too hot?

Hi, could anyone give me some advice on the setup of the corvette basic.

I have a four string active which has great action and playability, but i have had trouble getting a consistent, controlled tone out of my set up. The guitar just seems to be too hot!!

I have to keep the gain very low which in turn limits the output volume, so getting good tone at higher volume is difficult. Recording has also been problematic as i just can't seem to tame the guitar with satisfying results.

Is their a general issue with this? Is their anything in the electrics i could change? Is their anything in my tone settings or rig that could make it better? I use ghs bass boomers at the minute and have given up on my effects untill i can get this sorted....
 
Hello sparkclarke, welcome to the forum man :-)

too hot you say? Well in that case just lower the pickups until your output seems to be good for you. Be sure you set them in a way that you will have the same output coming from each pickups. It means that the neck pickup should be even lower.
A trick I've seen at the factory:
You use a hex key, let's say 4 mm to set the brigde pickup. You place the gey on top of the pickup, and you lower it until it fits perfect between the pup and strings. Then you press the strings at 24,th fret, abd do the same thing :-)
