check the top of this bass

Thats cos of the countersinking around the knobs...if you check out the original ebay page it's pretty clear...
 
ahh i thought it might have meant the opposite (because of the counter)
 
It looked to me like the knobs have a clear flange at their basses,giving this effect.
 
I think thye're countersunk Greg. If there was a clear flange causing a distortion effect that effect should change as you move around the bass. There's a pic for the side and the back and in both the patterning around the knobs is the same.
