Be patient with me, Streamer question

I have just aquired a Streamer S1 in fairly poor condition, it is fitted with bassline pickups and has no actives, I believe that the pickups could be original equipment.
Were these guitars fitted with passive pickups and a preamp or would it have been factory fitted with active pickups and the associated electronics?

have you tried to change the battery? do you have any pics of the bass and electronics cavity?

:confused: ehhh!! did you read my post? it does not have any electronics fitted... so... like no battery...:roll:
 
It probably had active pickups, and 3 way MEC eq.
You can buy it from any Warwick dealer, and it is easy to install :-)

Would it be a good option to retain the passive pickups and fit a preamp, I saw the hardware on the Warwick site.
 




Have you considered keeping the SD's
and running them thru a U-Retro active
system ? It's a UK-built product and so
should be readily avaialble, but it has a
tone contour designed to enhance such
classic Americana as the Fender J-Bass,
and those SD's are classic Americana.

I'm sure a German - British - American
bass would have a wonderful voice !

Hey man, did you get that one off ebay? There was an absolute bargain SS1 for bout £150, pretty beat up but with a little work and about £200 more it would be good as new. Definately would have bought it myself if I wasn't STILL paying off my car.

And I would look for the warwick hardware from external websites, might find it a little cheaper.

£200 .... IF ONLY.... all the active electronics are missing and it needs a body repair and refinish, so If you know anyone who'll fix it for £200 point them in my direction... ;)
 
yeah maybe a bit of an under-estimation, but its definately gonna be cheaper than buying a decent 2nd hand SS1. so, was it the one off ebay with the duck tape on the body?

That was the one, I was in negotiation with the seller before it was on ebay, I bought it from him and not through ebay, I was able to have a good look at it before handing over the cash and goods... I like a good trade!!

Perznally, in your shoes, I'd leave the tone chain
as-is [if it's reliable ... ] since you like the sound.

And the only work I'd do to the body is whatever
minimal work prevents me getting splinters from

I would take the rest of the paint off, leave it natural with a good coat of oil. Did one of the pots need replacing as well, or was it just missing a control knob?

Im going to leave any paintwork to someone who knows what they are doing, I dont have the patience.
Its a missing pot, its been wired with a volume for each pickup and a master tone. I have now fitted a pot and knob to fill the hole. looks much better.
 




What to do with a 4th control hole ?

Maybe you'd like a seperate passive
tone control for each PU, kinda what
some of those old archtops have ?

The guy offered me it for trade for my guitar amp but he stopped replying to my PMs and put it on Ebay!

Congrats, it looks like a pretty fun project to have.

Originally I was planning getting it and just doing a tung oil refinish and leaving the electronics, maybe using a passive VV/TT setup like a Les Paul.

If you ever have any second thoughts about it, I'm still totally up for buying it. :d
