I really dont understand this aversion you have to wenge Ian.
You admit that you like modern tones. Would you call graphite a modern tone? (I know I would)
Well, wenge is as close to graphite (tonewise) as wood gets. Nothing else can sound as good as wenge. It's got the modern graphite qualities, with a warmness that is just superb.
I know it's too late to change anything on this bass, but I strongly suggest you should'nt be too hasty in adding wenge to your list of dislikes.
I say this coz I respect you too much just to tell you what I think you wanna hear.

It's not a matter of sound, but pure aesthetics. I just can't stand wenge's open pores.

That is a good question.... I was at The Three Judges in Glasgow, they had 10 guest ales on, for the life of me I can't remember - good stuff though, I had a couple more just to make sure the rest of the barrel tasted like the first pint ;)

The bass left Germany yesterday, according to my dealer. It's being shipped to him, then to me. Yay!
