A String not as loud as the others?

Hello all.
I've been playing around with the EQ settings on my Warwick Profet 5.1 to see if I can improve the sound, and I've got a really good sound coming out now.
Problem is the A string doesn't seem as loud as the other 3 strings, and I don't know why this is?? I have an Ibanez Expressionist 4 string with Warwick red label strings on (about 6 weeks old) and I have it switched to passive - the reason I do this is because I can get more volume on the amp without it clipping so much.
While playing around I did notice a bit of fret buzz on the A string at the D & E frets, so I adjusted the intonation a bit and it is fine now, but for some reason the E, D & G Strings sound a lot louder / clearer.
I don't know if this was just because I was using the amp in my garage and had the sound quite low or not

Anyone got any ideas what the problem might be?

I think it could be a bad setup, maybe it is too high. Check the space between the string and the pickup.
Or maybe it is a bad string, it happens sometimes...

+1 - check set up and string height, and then check strings.

You may have a twisted string as well. If the set up looks good, try removing your A string, and then restringing it. When doing so, make sure the string is straight from the ball end to the the nut - not twisted.

thanks for the replies.... the string is about the same height as all the others and about the same distance away from the pickups, so I'm not sure what the problem might be?? the string doesn't look twisted at all, so maybe it's a bad string?? I've not really noticed it before and when I play tonight & tomorrow night with the amp turned up it might not be noticible at all, so I'll see how it goes.

No it just seemed a bit weaker all over... but I only had the volume really low as I was in the garage and I could hear my finger picking as well, so I shall see how it goes tonight when I crank it up...

Listen to the bass without plugging it into your rig. If the A string is just overall more quiet and buzzes a little bit then it probably has a damaged core (or something)... I had it once on the E string, ended up putting a string from my old set. A sad experience actually, but nothing critical.

You can really hear a slightly difference in height. So to be sure, check the string height using an allen key.

And replace your amp. When I rehearse sometimes certain strings seem to sound much louder to me, but when I do some steps away it's gone.
