WTF? No Corvette $$ dealers in Toronto???

OP is correct IME, finding a Non-Rockbass Warwick for sale in Toronto pretty much means searching online classifieds. L&M was the last dealer to stock them consistently.

This usually equates to sales tax + $10-$20 in fees, it's actually rather reasonable if sent through post or FedEx. UPS is horse♣♣♣♣.

Yes, do NOT deal with UPS if your parcel needs to cross the Canada-US border. It is literally deal-breaker for me, especially after I complained to them once about a driver being rude and had their customer "service" people essentially call me a liar.

I have shipped multiple bass guitars from the USA to CAN and there have been no problems whatsoever. Sounds like you got a bad UPS driver. I would rather that than deal wth a company who doesn't know how to update their tracking properly.

Import duties are set by the country, not the shipping agent.
 
Yes, but shipping agents can devise extra brokerage fees as they see fit. FedEx doesn't have much in the way of extra charges, and they send you a bill in the mail after the fact anyway. The post office charges a small fee as well, but if you don't have cash at the door, you can pick it up at the post office. UPS charges extortious brokerage fees, requires COD at the door or advanced payment of an unknown charge, and if you want to pick the item up at a store they have to attempt delivery first.

I'm speaking from a mountain of experience.

I have never had that problem importing an instrument to the USA using UPS. Weird.
 
Yes it is weird - it's only a problem going INTO Canada. I send/receive things via USPS if I can, and FedEx if I can't.
 
If anybody has issues finding a Warwick just go to Long and McQuade at 925 Bloor Street West. Ask for Richard or Tony. They can order from Korg who is our main distributor. They know me and they are great guys that will help you out.
They most likely won't have any in stock but if you're serious they can order it for you.

Ignore Steve's Music, when I was in Toronto last time they didn't even know they carried Warwick even while 4 basses where on display.

How could someone manage a business that way? And, most important, When is Warwick gonna find a REAL and SERIOUS distributor for North America?

There are a lot of businesses on Queen St. like that. Its just the neighbourhood. The Steve's in Montreal is fantastic but the Toronto one is terrible. This is just one store mind you.

As far as the distributor situation I haven't dealt with the main distributors in North America but I find its mostly the stores themselves that don't hire the right people who really care about what they are paid for. If you don't know what products are hanging on your wall maybe retail is not for you.

I went to Steve's in Montreal for the first time last summer and it was a revelation compared to the Toronto store.

Just stumbled into this little place in Leaside the other day, St. John's Music. They actually had a decent selection of Korean Wicks. Nothing German that I saw but a range of Korean Pro Series and some Rockbass stuff as well.
 
That store is the one I referenced in my first post in this thread... I've never seen Korean models there though, I may have to swing by and check them out. Any recollection of what was there?

They are one of our dealers and pretty close to my old music school. Nice guys and can order German Warwicks if you are interested.
 
Surely any Korg dealer in Canada could order a Warwick. They might not know how, and they probably don't want to, but surely they could.

I grew up just a flew blocks away from there and love that store - in fact I'm going to swing by tomorrow for a bit and check out the stock.

I'm curious what music school you went to though. I went to the Ontario College of Percussion and Music () for several months. Their bass teacher Kevin is mostly a fretless player and I started taking lessons with him shortly after I got my first fretless. Great guy - had I not moved away, I would have kept taking the lessons with him.
