I'm a nerd so what?

Personally i'm sticking with XP, and going with the fact the by the time its defunct i'll have fully made the transition to linux. I would maybe get 7 but atm its very cost prohibitive - and i'm really liking linux for music atm - there are some very interesting programs that are not available anywhere else.

I've not found a perfect OS for my needs yet, linux is close and once i iron out some niggling issue it'll be perfect but i still need to switch to XP every so often for some things. I'm hoping ubuntu 9.10 will solve these (and fingers cross not introduce anymore!).

I have used OSX extensively but it annoyed me too much, i honestly found it too simple and when something went wrong (yes if you try to do something remotely unusual you did encounter problems) it was a PITA to fix because of how everything was done for you.
 
Callum, I wouldn't waste my time on Linux, believe you me I was a die hard linux freak, it's just not possible.
Windows is so widespread you will always end up switching back to them. No new linux distro will fix that,
it's an issue of mentality. I never regret I learned a lot from linux in the process though. :)
(I still use unix tools in my work, GNUWin32 is great! You get the command line tools in win so you can
script away, and the command line tools are the true power of unix ;) )

As for as the nerd comments, you 're just pissed that we're smarter than you, it's so obvious. :twisted:

The thing with apple's OS is you got to be a super geek or someone who is completely afraid of computer; there is no middle road. You either stick to what apple THINKS is acceptable computing behavior; or you have to learn a lot more in order to get under the hood to alter the functionality.

And if you want the genuine OSX, you HAVE to buy apple hardware; which has been behind the curve for the past couple years. Plus apple ask more money for it too, because someone will want a piece of art on their desk.

Last but not least, where is Blue-ray on apple???

From what I understand osx is unix based but wouldn't imagine apple would leave anything customizable... Interesting. I wonder if there a way to run osx on a regular pc...

Yeah there are ppl who can't see the reality for what it is; that's how I earn my living in marketing.

While Fender wants to be "The Real Bass" ...
Apple wants the Mac to be seen as something other than a computer.

There are a few guides about how to make your own 'hackintosh' needs a good level of geek though!

I'm honestly using it purely for music, and i am loving what you can do over a pc and even mac, i'm still learning but what i can do atm on linux far outstripped what was possible for me on a pc. Studio techniques are universal so thats not the issue is just limitations in programs, i am a big ableton fan for recording, producing and djing. i can do what i did in ableton, using a few programs running through jack, and add more for extra stuff that i wished i could do in ableton. I can see my self continuing to use it especailly as linux audio is in a really interesting place atm, with a lot of stuff i'm really eagerly awaiting!

The windows apps i do use run under wine fine for me - but i guess i have the luxury of being a student and not having to worry about compatibility with work and all that.

I'll probably have to keep a windows install around, but i can see myself using it less and less!
