Wich year for Thumb NT 6

hello guys

I have th opportunity to buy a '92 Thumb NT 6 but:

- it has never have been waxed
- it has been exposed to dust, like on a stand without cover
- seller told he bought it new around 2002, but serial is from 92!

no scratches, Bart pups...

1350 eur

or a more expensive newer one, industrial made (92 were still made by hand I think) with 3 tone control and Basslines pups.

on the 92 it will take some days to clean, wax and maybe put an aguilar OBP-3... th others looks like ready to go, but more expensive and industrial.

The other one how new it is?

Two things you should know.
1- None of our basses are really "Indistrial" We are still doing them by hand, only we use better and better gear to produce them. But it's not like we are a huge factory, and the robots are making them.

Besides that, in 1992 we were already using CNC machines :-)
 
My 89 Thumb 5 was covered in dust and hadn't been waxed in years when I bought it. It soon perked up after a clean-up and a few daily waxings. Personally I would go for the 92 so long as the frets are OK.

of course they don't look like robots to me :d well, CNC is cool, bu tis the hand assembling that makes the difference so it's ok :d

all those pics makes me wonder about a Custom Shop...

I forgot to tell I actually play a 2004 Thumb BO, can't be compared to this one of course

by the way frets are OK, action is incredible low, some buzzes, but unbelievable low

so Florin, would you also go for the 92?

Still I don't know what year is the newer one.
I used to own a 92 thumb NT, and it was great. The Bartolini pickups are considered by many as an upgrade, and the price is really really low. So I'd buy this one anyway...
 
newer one is 99 up, I don't have the serial.. but the 92 need really a make up!, I think the price is right or even higher because of the shape, but of course there are no scratch.

he only relocated the strap lock so there will be a hole to fill up
 
oh, the neck looked like flat compared to my 2004 BO, but I think it's another "world" and is really wide so probably looks like flat
 
OP, the 92 actually looks to be in a very good shape to me. Sometime you got to look pass the dusty/dirty exterior to see the bass for what it really is. I am bias towards older Warwick, so YMMV.

I like to buy basses that were well played but not abused. As long as there were no broken parts and everything function as should be. I do not baby my bass, but that's why I buy Warwicks, they are built like a tank. Dings and dents, buckle rashes do not bother me at all, let a lone a little dust, lol.

well yes, looks like to be 100% functional, the old brass nut needs a shine, and the bridge a clean, not to mention the poor Bubinga that needs to be fed by wax.

I already did it with my 2004, it was a NOS, but not for that long time, I shined the frets with 0000 Liberon steel whool, looks like brand new

you are almost convincing me.... I'll try to get back to the guy but he must lower a bit more... I'm pretty sure I can find a more babied one for the same price, it's just a matter of time.

yes, I know.. I'm a little "anal" on my instruments.. but the sound was really good, even with junk strings...
 
would you buy an old 2 tone control thumb and upgrade to 3 tones? is it still better to buy a newer one with 3 tones or is a pitty to modify?

I may have found a 2003 with flight case.. for 1300

at this stage... I may prefer an older one, but I'll go for the newer if the conditions are better.
 
They are different. The 2003 Has Ovankol neck and Ebony fingerboard, the old one has Wenge neck, wenge fingerboard.
The old one sounds darker, rounder, the new one has a more sophisticated sound.

I may like the older one then :lol:

as a matter of fact that mistreated 92 sounded like I mean a thumb should ...
 
I'm waiting for the seller to lower the price.. once he realizes he can't present an instrument like he did :-)
