Whitish Discolorization Mark on Thumb - It Breaks My Heart

I don't know if I can post this Q here, so forgive me if I'm breaking the forum rules.

As I posted before, I got what seems like a 2001 LTD Thumb. The only cosmetic flaw is a tiny whitish mark on the body near the top of the neck pickup, where the previous owner probably rested his thumb (you know, the thumb of his hand.

What would be the best way to restore the beauty? Can I simly buff it with 0000 steel wool and apply wax? Or, should I stain the area? If I should stain the mark, where can I possibly get stain for bubinga? (I'm in the US).

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

P.S. Please don't say "Just PLAY!" This bass is too sexy to have any aethetic flaw. BTW, I'm getting a free photo hosting account, so I'll post some pics.

Hi Klaus & welcome,
If you ever use steel wool on your bass you'll need to tape up the pickups to prevent the filings sticking to your pickups.
The mark you describe is common & easily fixed.You could apply a small amount of tung oil & after letting that dry,apply some wax as you normally would.
I dont think stain is the way to go because the bubinga body has only been oiled & not stained so any staining will be obvious,& you dont want that.

+1 0000 steel wool and tung or linseed oil will be the best way to do it.

And stain would be bad...
