Which Warwick for me?

I want a Warwick, but I'm not sure which model would best suit me.

I mainly play hardcore/metal type music with my band, and for that I would like a low growly sound that can stand out. But I would also like a flat dull Jazz bass sound, and a nice bright funk type sound.

I want something that plays nice, and that can be tapped fairly easily. I also adore using harmonics, so I want something that'll ring.

Overall, I just need power, something strong.

I've no experience of Corvettes, but you should try a Thumb NT, the only thing out of your list that it doesn't do well IMO is the tapping.

As a bass to cut through in a metal context, as well as being a superb slap and funk bass, it's got it all. :)
 
Custom Shop Streamer Stage II... All of what you're looking for can be done, you just gotta pick the right woods... ~M~
ps- setting a price range might be helpful to narrow the choices, mate.
 
Something powerful & strong eh?On that alone I'd say get the $$ but a Thumb or a Jazzman would do the job too.What I like about any of those basses is all you have to do is plug them in & they sound great.A good lead helps too. :wink:
 
In my opinion, Corvette ProLine. I think it would fit you well from your description, it has a fast neck, excellent harmonics, good taps, and i find that it sounds the most like Victor Wootens Monarch with a growl. It also sounds fantastic for vintage things, because it has an active/passive pull knob.

Try one, tell me what you think.
 
The active or $$ would be the way to go...

Because if it's somewhere in the $1000- $1500 range new, I say Doublebuck. Even in passive mode just playing with the coil taps can get you everything from thick and pillowy to nasally snarl.

The relevant factor for the choice ist, if one play on the long or short strap.
The Warwick offers some 10 basic forms / cca 30 models.
Some are universal, some are good playable on the short,
some on the long strap.
The hardcore musicians are playing mostly long strap.
Perfect for the long strap are forms KATANA and VAMPYRE.
The typical form for the short strap ist Thumb.
Universal ist f.e. INFINITY SN or DOLPHIN too.
The CORVETTE ist perfekt for the midle long strap.
Select the optimal body form, for optimal playability,
than pickups and woods.

I would really have to suggest the Thumb BO = ) It does all the things you mentioned perfectly.
 
I'm in a metal band and I use Thumb Bo and i highly recomand it, also try $$ it is s realy versatile instrument
 
haha dont rule out the vampyre! i think it's an awesome bass... but that's probably because its a warwick
 
It's a shame they don't make frotress masterman anymore... I play metal, and it's perfect both high and low, fret 1 and 24..

a side question: what is the reason warwick doesn't offer this bass anymore???
 
If you play 4 strings I would recommend the neck-thru thumb bass or streamer stage 2. For 5 strings I would go with the Stage 2 neck-thru first or the Fna jazzman corvette or Streamer version. All of the Warwicks are special and will not let you down and in my opinion these are the most versatile. If you like control of your mids(I take them out for slapping) get a bass with a 3 band eq. doesnt have enoug mid range growl for metal IMHO. Go for a thumb 5 BO in my opinion, but as always, play everythnig you can get your hands on.
 
I have only played the Corvette Standard and the Thumb BO, and I think that either would be a good choice for you. I think the Thumb has a bit more "growl", but I think any Warwick would be great for what you are playing. It really comes down to what "sound" it is that you are looking for.

I found a video on youtube [ame]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j3TE4RFNNFs[/ame] that give a good idea of the growly sound that you can get from a thumb, and different styles of play that can be done on a Thumb.

Other than that, I would suggest playing what you can, and perhaps listening to other bands that play a type of music that might approximate what your looking for in your bass sound-- 311, Incubus and Mudvayne are few that come to mind right off hand. But you can go to:
