    I have a friend that studies Byzantine music, and he tells me it's a whole new different world. Any observations you made with how the bass voices and harmony moved etc? There's no guarantees it is 12 tone equal temperament either, as it is vocal music.

    I'd have to listen again for that. I was mainly struck by the ethereal beauty of the voices over the insistent rhythm of the percussion.

    Bulgarian choirs are pretty similar, and awesome. Goran Bregovic uses some of this stuff for his music. Also some cool modern metuhl backing vocals are made like this :)

    Yeah, I saw them life in a church once. Mindblowing!
    They have those metallic voices, almost synth like, incredible technique, and somehow they mix those harsh voices together like magic. They don't feel like a choir at all, more like 20 lead singers.
