all I can say is: When are we going to actually *hear* the Star bass?

I think it's drop-dead sexy. I've got a good mind to start a Grateful Dead early 70s style band with that bass...

I'm known by my friends for being a little "trendy" (I'm 19 and at uni so the people judging me tend to know what they're talking about (trying not to sound vain)) and taking care in fashion, I like indie music (as well as jazz, funk, soul, hip hop, pop, drum and bass, dance, electro, old style pop, 80's pop... the list goes on) but I am also known (going back to the indie point) for liking those obscure cool bands, the ones who all sport 4003's and think that they are the height of originality (when actually I'm a hell of a lot more original sporting my warwick) which is kind of my point, I don't think warwick need to compromise their image to become cool again, it will just happen, people will see that an instrument is an instrument and that warwicks are very pretty ones at that and if you like it and play it well you will look cool, as with the whole classic vibe, the coolness of the classic/vintage vibe thing will fade, quality of an instrument will not, I don't think warwick needs to comform to fashion right now, I like that they reissued the star bass, but keep it at what it is, a good remodel of the old framus bass, (it looks very different to it). I think the new modern look is tastefull and well in keeping with warwicks image. Lets not ruin that.

I think the Star Bass looks veeeery cool in itself. If I liked the sound of it and got a good price, sure I could buy it.

It looks really 60`s rock`n`roll, and I get this Buddy Holly-feel when I see it.

....can I have that in Nirvana black, please? 8)

I would get it in HP black for sure. I did a couple mockups of it. One in white one in Black. It looks way more retro and cool in a HP solid color. I just wish it had a little more shape to the body like the epiphone Jack Casady bass. It's not as flat on the top as the Star bass is.

I think this "StarBass & Fashion" discussion could really
thrive on a general [non brand name] bass forum, but
that it gets choked and distorted by being on this forum.

On this forum, things like "JazzMan or $$?", "Flat Body
or Contour?", etc are especially central to the Warwick
lineup of solid body basses, which cover a wide range
but all have a sense of belonging.

The StarBass, while it happens to be a Warwick product
and happens to touch on Wick history, has, as a player's
instrument, no significant relationship to all those other
quite clearly interrelated Wicks [the solid bodies]. To get
a sense of what the StarBass is and is not, from a player
perspective, seeing it in it's Warwick context is what is
choking and distorting things.

Of course that Warwicky context IS the life of this forum,
but a potential StarBass player has little to benefit from
a Warwicky discussion of an ax that needs to be seen in
a suitable context. The "Streamer-Thumb-Vett" context
of this forum takes you nowhere, StarBass-wise. A more
relevent context would be a "Citron-Bill_Moll-Gibson-MTD
-Rick_Turner-Rob_Allen" context.

Personally, I think that if Warwick DID also offer a more
affordable ax in the same genre, you'd begin to have the
basis for discussing such basses in a Warwicky setting:

You'd have the HellBorg, the StarBass, and a third, most
affordable, option. Not a cheapo clone, no RockBass type,
but something less 'exotic' - the term "mid priced" comes
to mind. Wick would then have a wide offering of thinline
hobo choices, all in-the-family, even tho the gaps in that
lineup would be large compared to the solid body lineup.

Throw the Alien in the mix, and "Hollow Warwicks" would
be a viable subforum here :)

I think it would be nice to see a cheaper, vintage looking Warwick or Rockbass. Like a Rockbass Stryker:)

+1000

A Rockbass Stryker would have the same effect as the Epi Thunderbird IMO, all the zing for a fraction of the price. Hopefully not with the famous "epic neck dive" of a thunderbird!

We have received in stock a lovely Black High Polish STAR BASS! Stunning bass tonally and visually!

Fashion runs in cycles, not to far from now high profile bands will turn away from Vintage style bass looks and Fender will again make modern looking basses! Its happened before! Fashion runs in cycles.

When we speak about warwick we know that thay
sound not as traditional basses, but when warwick
will star make traditional basses it will be big problem
for them becouse traditional basses already make
another sucseful breand like fender and etc.

There is a good-sized and well-established market for
"Fender Clones" that only LOOK Fenderish but perform
like a modern bass. This is in two forms: HotRodding
of actual Fenders is widespread, plus there are all the
makers like LakLand, Sadowski, Lull etc etc that make
ready-to-play modern basses that look like Fenders.

Also there's the StingRay [and Sterling]. It's a 30 year
old Leo Fender design, appearance-wise, but it is well
accepted as delivering a very modern tone [and the
Sterling even more so].

I can't see where selling a traditional-looking bass that
delivers very non-traditional tone [meaning "NOT the
Olde Skool Fender tone"] is a problem for Warwick, as
it certainly hasn't been a problem for the many makers
who have already gone down that road.

If there IS any problem with that for Warwick, it's the
need to win over potential Sadowski, Lakland, Lull etc
buyers to get them to consider a W on the headstock.

The current crop of Wick players seems very happy to
have radical or non-traditional looking basses, so the
current Wick players are prolly not the primary market
for a traditional-look Wick. 30 yrs ago Wick did well to
build on a licence for the Spector NS bass, but 30 yrs
later, introducing a vintage-looking style would require
going after a bunch of players who aren't accustomed
to even thinking about Warwick.
