A new review bass is in and it's stunning!

This was at the factory some weeks ago. You recognize Marcus and the girls was one of the Dutch Bass Divas:

And now it arrived safe and sound in The Netherlands:

Like mr. Clayton I'm playing a lot trying out the passive tone controls. My first impression is that it's quite cool! More to follow.

Last time I checked, Toronto was in, or at least nearby to, North
America, where a grumpy dood in San Luis Obispo makes some
waaaaay awesome 21-fret 5-strings. Or maybe 22-fret ? I never
play up there, so even tho I have 3 of them, I don't recall really
exactly where the scale ends ....

Anywho, these SLO-built basses are not that easy to find in the
Oulde World, but YOU don't have that problem GSTQ etc etc.

This might sound insane, but I don't like 22 fret necks. 21, or 24. Preferably 21.

The new American Deluxe Jazz basses have 21 frets, and so do some boutiques, and a few ESPs - but there are a LOT of 22 fret necks. Don't like the electronics on the new Jazzes though.

Also, I'm all about neck pickup tones, single coils, and blend controls. Guess that rules out MM!

This one has no blend. Two volumes and passive high and low. Installing a mastertone and balance would be easy.

Thanks Chris! How does it sound compared to an LX? I like the idea of a 21 fret Warwick too, more meat to the slap sound!

Ah yes - what I should have said was variable pickup control. None of this 'selector switch' nonsense like on most EBMMs.

How much do they sell for? i love my LX5, but i also love vintage basses, so this is the ultimate combo

Listening to Andy Irvine's demo of it, the bass definitely favours the traditional sound (we all know what I'm referring to) over the Warwick 'Sound of Wood'. They're both there, but I'm thinking 70% trad, 30% WW.

Why is this?

Passive elecs? Nope - Corvette has them and they sound plenty WW.

Open magnetic poles instead of closed ceramic bars? I think they have a bit to do with the vintage sound, but the Jazzman has these, and it sounds plenty WW as well.

RW board? Infinity has it - as WW as it gets, tonally. Maple neck? Lots of WW-sounding instruments have WW necks. The Streamer $$ sounds plenty WW.

What else is the difference?

How about that one-piece neck? That has to be it. I think a huge ingredient to the Warwick sound is the fact that they have laminated necks.

It's vintage sounding, but it sure has the tight Warwick-sound. More soon!

I used the bass on national radio. The song starts at 5:05. I was only DI'd and the sound is very strange... But it looks good, doesn't it?

Nice, that bass is a looker.

I think it sounds weird because they added too much compression.

Radio = tons of compression. That will be the case then.
