warwick streamer custom

ok i'm studying this thread since days and i'm still confused...

original; woods, frets, nut, hardware and even pickups (were an option back in the days)

not original; screws, trussrod cover, batterie & cover

not right; tuner position, head shape

my conclusion; a 86/87 streamer with reshaped headstock and small details modded by the owner. my only problem is that there should be visible screw holes from the tuner as the tuners were straight at that time!

Let's say it can be an early prototype, first experiments with headstock, and angled tuners, etc... But the electronics cover should be the ones used by warwick, and it doesn't really look like one....
 
As everyone before me, I think that bass looks weird.

Too many things that aren´t right, specially the headstock shape.
 
headstock has been heavily sanded - probably an attempt to restore a beaten up streamer.
as this is cherry and not anigre it would be early 86

You know... some basses from that time had a slight different shape, they were all worked by hand... To me the little things are important, like the electronics cover :-) I don't think we've ever used that one...
 
I wouldn't go near it. If it is an original Warwick, as has already been said I think the entire bass has been worked on in an attempt to maybe clean it up. They have really hammered the headstock and the neck under the nut area, just looks odd. Not sure what is going on with the 3 knob electronics. The woods look good though, cherry and wenge, too good to be a fake? It's an oddun, to be sure!

Haha, come on Marco, if this is a Warwick ripoff, you have to admit is probably the best ever made :-)
 
The headstock shape does look a lot like that of a 1986 JD Thumb. Might it be an early prototype?
 
Why Don't you send the pictures to Hans Peter wilfer?
He probably knows because if it is a early one he has built it himself.
 
The bass 'as a complete instrument' has too many things right not to be a Warwick BUT I agree the headstock has had work done (the overall shape which looks wrong may just be bad camera angles) and the battery compartment could easily be a blank plate screwed in because we all know the issues with those covers (LOL) but it can't be an early prototype (i.e. 82-83-84) because the neck heel and other things just scream 86(ish). The 3 controls is unusual but in the earlier days of Warwick Streamers, many things were possible... could the body wings have been made/routed at the same time as the 5th Anniversary which has 3 controls or was it just electronics around that only needed 3 so that's what they fitted?
 
The back of the headstock look pretty roughly finished as well, could it be it was one of the hand carved ones with the ridge of wood left between the machine heads that someone has basically put on a sander to smooth out?
 
The neck does not look that old. I may be wrong, but old wenge looks different. Also the edges are too straight...

The heel/body joint isn't correct for an early 'first years' model. However, agreed it looks like someone has had the headstock on a sander... headstock break?
 
This could just be a 'custom' Warwick from the eighties. Custom as in, custom electronics -> Alembic with 3 pots. This might also explain the electronic covers. Maybe an owner sanded the headstock in a desperate attempt to loose neck dive. Who knows? For sure it is a bass with a story and it has a lot of - what looks like - original warwick parts, i.e. bridge, tuners, woods, frets..
