Just a bit curious really, anyone on here got one, what are they like to play and what do they sound like, just being nosey really as my brother had a old 60's starbass copy that wasnt that nice so just wondering how it is with a bit of a modern day slant and good engineering. Some soundlips would be brilliant if anyones got any.
 
I think there's almost no resemblance to the old Framus; only the name. The body is more Gibson EB2 and the pick ups look like Gibson mudbuckers too. I think it's a complete different animal. Try the 'search' button above, I believe someone here played it.

I only saw one at the NAMM, but I didn't played it.
 
I've got a feeling that the starbass is not exactly being cleaned off the shelves. I could be wrong but i've not spoke to anyone who owns one on here and they don't seem to be appearing on ebay at all, which kinda suggests they aint being sold in the first place.

I had a look at one at the london music show a few months back and it didn't really have the 'wow' factor for me, didn't hear anyone playing it though so i can't comment on the tone.
 
I think it's the most vintage looking Wick and in that way it maybe more atracts Gibson people then Warwick people? But it sure is great and maybe it just takes a while. Someone has to endorse it! I already gave a name to mr. Wilfer. No not me;)

I would love to have one though, but I think I want a Stryker even more!
 
I've never really fancied a stryker, i think i would rather have the starbass than the stryker.

I did enquire about the price of the starbass when it first came out and i was quite surprised at how expensive it is. I thought that with the passive pickups and electronics it would be around the same price as the $$, but i was quoted almost double that.

If it was a little cheaper (say just below the £1000 mark) i would be tempted to save up for one as i particularly like passive instruments, but at £1500 i think its a bit too expensive for what it is.

Remember it's made of a more expensive set of woods & the labour that goes into building a bass like this(hollowbody) is significant.The pickups & eq account for a couple hundred bucks at most.
I actually had felt the opposite to you in that I expected it to cost alot more.
 
I for one would love to get my hands on one - it's out of my budget ATM, but if I had the money in my pocket for one, I'd drop it down real fast.

Fair enuff, guess im just a cheapskate lol. I just put down the deposit on a new car (as much as i'd rather a new bass, it won't get me to work and back every day) so now i've got even less money than usual. Glad i've got my ever-trusty fortress close at hand.
 
I had one for a week to review for Dominant

I loved it...def try and find one to try out!!

It hard a pretty dark tone, would be great for rock! I only wish I had reviewed a 5string version - which will be revealed soon!!
 
The Starbass is a serious object of lust for me! Haven't tried one yet, though!
 
WOW!

I tried the Star Bass II today..
At the guitar shop here in trondheim. I love that place now..

They had recently taken in a Corvette $$NT (In a hot nirvana black or a dark blue finish) and the Star Bass II.

Looking for a Modulus I turned around and was amazed by seing the Star Bass II standing on the floor in elegance right by a Modulus (I think it was a flea signature, lost my attention :D)

The sound..
How can I describe the sound? The warmest, deepest, loveliest sound and playability I've ever seen and felt in a bass.
I'm considering it now. 20 000 norwegian kroner...

Only thing is, it's way to nice to use with my band... :P

The StarBass fits a limited niche market.
Not many will ever sell. Pricing it close
to the price of a vintage Gibby isn't
gonna help move it either ....

Loving the regeneration of an old thread!! I'm still not too sure bout the star bass, but the maple version does look awesome. Just wish I had tried out the 4 string one at the guitar show last year

Oh god i had just about planned out a CS bass, i might have to steal this idea nirvana black flamed maple, white bindings, fretless and piezzo slapped on it. Then we'd be in business!

NOW you talkin sense !

The option of including a piezo bridge really
sets it apart from spending the same money
on an old Gibson. Acoarst you gotta exercise
that option or else WTF zall about, right ?
