Im shocked ... horrified actually. Those THINGS actually say Rickenbacker on them. You don't even have to look very hard to they are fakes, but I mean, WTF, they are even stealing the name ... Like I said, there are exceptions, but this is just crazy... OK, I guess I have to say I was wrong. But it didn't use to be like that. John Hall must be getting old... hahaha

This Trade Tang thing is pretty recent Randy, so maybe John Hall's lawyers havent quite shut them down yet. But they will.
The basses are complete & utter pieces of garbage. A bloke here in Aussie bought one & said it looks like it was built by drunken monkeys.

I recon I've seen a dolphin copy by the same luthier, they are hand made and look pretty good, I'm pretty sure he sells them as copies/inspired by, never as wicks themselves.

Randy- you wouldn't believe the fake stuff coming out of china. I've seen strats that have perfect tags, every sticker in the pack looks right, every label (down to the made in the fender factory USA one on the guard) is perfect. Except they are made of pine, useless pups and horrid wiring. Friend working in a guitar store nearly bought a LP copy for stock as the real deal (as a 2nd hand ax) till he gave it to someone there who owned the real ones who said it felt too light. that was all that gave it away. they took off the electronics cover and sure enough it wasnt mahogany.
 
The counterfeit market is enourmous. Factories in India that produce phamarceutical drugs under licence for big drug companies, also produce counterfeit drugs in the same packaging. The only difference is the active ingredient. The more it's cut, the cheaper it is. This is very sad & dangerous as alot of this medication has found it's way into unsuspecting hospitals & directly led to the deaths of countless people. There's one vigilant doctor working to stop this insidious trade. She took a hidden camera into one of India's largest drug manufacturers & taped a deal she struck with a seniour sales consultant, for counterfeit drugs. It turned my guts to think the drugs we pay good money for & rely on to keep us healthy & save our lives, might be nothing but useless chalk.
I'm amazed why the UN has sanctions on Iraq, yet let's this go on in India.
 
The answer, my friend Greg, is that India, just like China, are very powerful economies, and, as you may know, these days politics don´t act in behalf of the people who vote them, or their peoples good, they act in behalf of the money, stock markets, those are the REAL goverments, not the pathetic monkeys that we have as "leaders" of our countries.

Yes. It's an unfortunate truth.
Morals, ethics, all of these things we hold in such high regard. Like democracy. But when it comes to the crunch, it's always the mighty dollar that's the basis of everything that's wrong in the world. I only hope to hell our kid's generation grows up to see that the shortcoming's of the previous generations.
 
Im sure having the Mfg in China makes it hard for RIC to shut them down, but I was surprised that they seem to be so prevalent. Often times, when RIC can't stop the production, they are able to significantly impede their distribution and sales, and commonly to a point that manufacturing them is no longer profitable. While I am no snob about fake RICs, I do hate people trying to pass them off as a real deal.

As to fake drugs ... Im all for generic drugs that do the same thing for lesser cost, but to switch out drugs with an inferior product is, or at least should be, criminal. It is so sad what people/corporations will do for money. I can't imagine jeopardizing someones life to make money. The swapping of a drug with a lesser non effective drug that results in the death of a person should be considered nothing less than murder and everyone involved should be considered guilty. But sadly, with the state of our world, money always seems to take presidence over morality. It is far easier to do what is profitable than what is right.
 
China executed a company executive that was behind that tainted baby formula scandal. It's not like the govt. doesnt take it seriously, it's the high levels of corruption that's the problem I think.
