Hi,
is it possible to give short comments on the different warwick amp heads regarding for exemple the style of music they are meant for and their tonal specs?

X-treme - fast attack and very articulate. wide range of tones. does everything. has loads of feature

Tubepath. has the "tubey" sound. warm and smoother. can get some grit out of this amp. simpler in opperation than the X-treme.

in my opinion it depends what you want-solid state articulation of tubey warmth. im personallt a solid state man (for now at least)

for my tastes (and these are very subective) i prefer amps like the x-treme for metal and modern rock and the tubepath for jazzy stuff/funky stuff and older styles of rock.
 
Hey Rob,

Our amps were not designed specific for a music style or another. The beauty is that they are very different, so you can chose the one you like :-)
Alex gave you a really good description, But I don't really agree that Tubepath fosr example is better for jazz. Many jazz bassists will prefer the Xtreme because it is more articulated.
Also, consider that Xtreme sounds somehow modern, while the tubepath is pretty vintage sounding.
And don't forget the Jonas Hellborg sig, which sounds warmer than tubepath, faster than xtreme, and give you a feeling like no ather amp.

i just started the bass a few months ago and to be honest i had a look at the hellborg amps...but i have no clue what is a power amp or a preamp (and what they are meant for!!!) and so on...
Maybe someone can give me a crash course...

Well a normal head is a preamp and a power amp combined. Preamp is what shapes the sound, power amp is what well, gives the power.

The Hellborg series are just seperate.
 
So if am not totally wrong you got to have both of them, power amp and preamp? ...+ a good cab = a lot of money, isn't it? And what would be your choice, the mono or the stereo version?
 
Hey Rob,
The preamp shapes your sound, and send it to the console via DI output. It also send the sound to the POwer Amplifier.
The Power amplifier sends tha amplified signal to the Cabinet. Now... you can use a mic with the cabinet and send another signal to the console. In that case, the Power amplifier and Cabinet are very important for the overall sound.

But most of us we use the DI output only, so it means that for the front of the house, the Preamp is really important, and the Power Amplifier is important just for you on the stage. You don't need to go very hi-fi here if you don't want, so you don't need to spend much money.

So... You can combine the JH preamp with a T.Amp power amplifier that costs 160 EUR at thomann (TA 600) That's a very good power amplifier, I owned one before. Also... I use the 411 pro cabinets with JH stuff, so... again it is not THAT expensive.

In the end you can have the best sound ever for a decent price ;-)

Consider that JH preamp + Tamp power will cost around 350 EUR more than the tubepath 10.1 :D

...but to have all the advantages of the hellborg amp system it is surely better to combine the preamp with the hellborg poweramp, or not?

... if you send the signal to the console via DI, it doesn't matter what Power amp are you using. But if you really want to have all the benefits of the JH, as you said, yes... it is better to buy the power amp too .
