Ok so first impressions + kinda mini review description:
Wow its got more chrome than the picture lead me to believe, very compact, not too heavy either. The black and silver makes a really nice contrast between my Eden and the cab it looks pretty f***ing great sitting in my room!
So this is purely a plug a few basses in see what happens test, i'll hopefully get some gigging opportunities to fully unleash it later, but atm its practice volumes.
First thing that struck me compared to other cabs was how smooth the sound was, i like a clear, smooth tone with an agressive bit from the tweeter. Other cabs i've tried i needed to cut the tweeter slightly due to it becoming overpowering. Not this cab, i've got it on max, and it sounds lovely, perfect for my needs! (for people's info i played a few cabs 6months ago search for the thread where i did an update) This cab seriously compared to the sound i remember from the epifani UL2X10 i played, and is a lot rounder and less sparkly than the ps 210 cab (lower tier epifani). Concidering that any other well known brand of 2x10 is around £400, and i payed £209 for it is a real bargain. Bang for buck don't get much better!
Cab is great to look at, sounds great and very loud (i have to keep turning it down). But i thought i'd give my basses a quick spin.
Now a SSI, $$ and thumb BO are all pretty different sounding basses so i thought i'd test them with my amp flat to see how to cab handled them then tweaked the eq to get the tone i like.
The SSI needed NO tweaking, had a great midrangy response, good boom in the low end and a nicely cut off treble which stopped it from being a clunk machine it can be.
Next was the $$, now flat the low end was nice but the upper harmonics would resonate far too much, ping a harmonic it literally played for ever. Taking out 4~6khz and adding a bit of 400hz really brought out a punchy fretless mwaaah, it had a great emptiness to the sound so when played near the neck it does a very good double bass tone.
With the thumb i really wanted to test the low B responce more than anything. Flat the cab handles it really well, especially as i was expecting a 210 to really not cope. Its not as defined as my PJB combo but thats tuned to 35hz and was made to handle a low B. But for a single 210 cab this thing held itself, the B was very growly, no muddyness only a slight lack of definition but you could still comfortable pick the notes out.
Overall i'm so happy i've got this, its one hell of a cab for what you pay for it. The Eden Warwick combo is amazing too, you have edens clarity without the tone coloration that Eden is famous for. I'd recommend one of these to anyone , and if you haven't tried one GO DO IT!
