want to buy a multi fx

Hi ,
I got fedup from my Basspod Xt pro & sold it , because I didnt like its amp moddeling & fx's , I got Eden amp & cabs , so It cant compare to the pod & the i didnt like the fx....

I'm about to buy a new multi fx , My choises are
1) Boss GT6B
2) Boss ME50B
3) Digitech BNX3
4) Korg Toneworks AX-3000B
5) Zoom B2.1U

I'm mainly will use Wah pedal & envelope filter for funky stuff & chorus/reverb for fretless , some whammy ( rarely ) , Overdrive ( rarely )
I dont care for the compressors ( I have a DBX 160A ) , dont care for the EQ & dont care for amp simul ....

Other option I have is to buy fx pedals separetly , but then I need to buy power supply & looper pedals & a box to put all in , so it will cost at list as much as the multi...(just the looper , box will cost me around 250€)

My Basses are Streamer Stage 1 , Thumb 2006 LTD , Fbass(Fretless) & btb prestige , Eden rig , so I really need quality , I also record a lot to Logic/mac at home

What do u think ?

I would vote for buying individual pedals. You'll get far superior sounding effects and dedicated controls. It's been my experience that multi-pedals "sterilize" everything. Why sacrifice your main tone, especially when you're only using a few effects? My two cents anyway.
 
i've got a BOSS ME-8B and it's great.

If you can find one of those or a 6B on eBay then go for it!
 
I own a GT6b and I love it. I usually recommend buying one, but not in your case:


1. GT6b's Wah sucks, that's a sad fact,

2. Overdrive/distortion is not good either,

3. EQ & amp simulators: these are actually very good but like you wrote you don't need them,

4. I like the compressors especially Boss Comp but you've got the DBX already,

5. Chorus and reverbs are great but what's the point of buying a multieffect for just 2 effects?


I can't agree with Evolverbass in regards to sterilizing the sound and the GT6b has also dedicated controls for most effects. Buying the Boss gives you good tuner and decent A/D converter, but is it worth it? The best features of the Boss are the ones you don't need...

All in all I'd rather recommend you buying separate pedals, m8.
 
I'm not trying to be arguementative, but I think your definition of dedicated controls is different from mine. The Chorus for example has a dedicated "level" control. But it's digital for everything else (rate, depth, etc.). I suppose that works for most, but it's not the same thing.

which is not exactly true, I should've written "some". And so what? All the parameters can be tweaked via digital dial.

But it's digital for everything else (rate, depth, etc.). I suppose that works for most, but it's not the same thing.

Well, try to set an analog delay to let's say 1/8th at 113 BPM :wink:
 
Fair enough. All I was trying to say is that "tweaking parameters via digital dial" (and then saving those settings as a patch), is not the same as having dedicated controls. For better or worse.

Certainly spikeymac has to make his own decision here. But if the BassPOD XT Pro wasn't cutting it, it's pretty unlikely the Boss multi will. You get what you pay for.
 
just do yourself a favor and DONT buy the ME50B....it sounds horrible, and so will your bass if you play it through the me50b.
 
One things for sure theres alot of crappy effect pedals available that destroy your sound
 
They all have that "digital" multi effects sound.(reminds me of 16 year olds at battle of the bands)

If you have to go multi effects then the GT-6b would be my pick.
It has true bypass. The effects on that are close to pro quality, though i found some of the sounds had latency.

As said, don't get the ME-50 it has really low sound quality.

The korg is quite good and set-up well. maybe 2nd to the gt6 but a lot cheaper.

Digitech is the best for pitch shifter/whammy etc and ok all round sound though it still sounds "digital" like ALL multi effects.

I just kept getting single pedals :lol:
 
in defence of the b2.1U, i went to see one of my fav bass playeres live a while ago and he was using on of these and the sound coming out of his amp was INCREDIBLE. also the guitar version of this (the g2.1U) in very very good. very robust and very good sound. so i quite like the zoom stuff
 
go to youtube.com and check out "toolbassplayer." It's this kid that has invested tons of money into pedals to replicate the rig of justin chancellor. He gives you lots of pointers and what pedals sound good and gives a demo of each.
 
hi, i don't speak english so patient.

i try some things, i have a zoom multieffect, boss metal zone distortion(guitar pedal), boss bass chorus, boss eq pedal, digitech rp2000 (guitar multieffect) and have to say that the sound at the end sucks. now i have bass v-amp pro, and i use a clean sound, the v-amp have delay and chorus and sound great.

i say: if you use pedals the sound is more clean and real, but if you use mre than one at a time this don't really works, the solution is a midi interface and midi controler, and you can get best effect you want. the multieffects use less chips for more controls and sound more digital.

it's only my opinion.
 
Another annoying thing is some effects have really crappy tracking no matter how you adjust the controls
 
Hi , Thanks for helping me.

I went to test the GT6B & the ME50B & I didnt like them , Wah wasnt good on either of them & the digital to me.
autowah didnt convince me either.

I'm sure now going for separet pedal fx.

Ì tested the Dunlop crybaby bass & liked it a lot better than the GT6B & co.
So I'll get it this week = I have got a Dod FX25B envelop filter too & bassballs.

I'll get a true bypass 2looper pedal too.

Now , I'll will need a good chorus & reverb/delay for my fretless & a Preamp peddal for situations that I cant take my Eden amp , I heard about Sadowsky , EBS , ToneBone & MXR , Anyone can advice ?
 
I'm a big fan of the MXR M-80 Bass DI+. The preamp channel sounds exactly like the SansAmp, but it has a seperate distortion channel with a built in noise gate.

I haven't found a chorus I really like for the money, so I can't comment there - but agree that the Dunlop bass wah is a good choice...
 
I saw a Doug Wimbish demo night recently at Soundcontrol and he really uses fx. Interestingly he used single pedals and his opinion was that guitar pedals actually work better than most of the bass versions!

I have a Doug Wimbish video. He plays like a guitarist, but he is awesome...
 
Separate effects is a winner, I'm a huge pedal junkie...just invested in an Emma Discombobulator (which can't be healthy for my funds especially after my Streamer $$ :oops: ) which apparently retains the low end incredibly well for an envelope filter.

I personally use a Boss DD-6 for the delay, it's got some nice functions such as reverse, warp and hold in addition to standard delay.
