Wall Hanger

Hi everyone,

This is a stupid question, but I was wondering about hanging my corvette$$ on the wall. My question is: Would hanging the bass on the wall affect the bass in anyway (excluding the fact that it could fall). For example, would the weight of the body cause the neck to warp or cause it any long term damage, or do you guys think it's safe for me to hang it.

I only have one problem with that.. The wall hangers we see to buy for our homes seem to have very limited extension. In other words, the bass is very close to the wall when you put it on the hanger. What if it hits the wall?

I'd probably use wall hangers for display purposes, and hang the guitars/basses high enough so they're out of harm's way ;D
 
I agree about the extension. I'm always worried that someone touches my cort and makes it hit the wall.
 
Hurculies hooks. they have a automatic locking sustem, great padding, AND great extention. my basses are about 5 inches from the wall. but no, it will not damage the bass, with the hurcules hooks, they will be much safer than on a rack, or on any stand.
 
I use the hangers for 2 year now, and not problems so far. Except maybe some little marcks in the headstock are.

Cool, I am gonna be hanging my basses when i move house soon, so will definately check these out.
 
Just be carfeul where you hang them. Basses and musical instruments are like vampires, they don't like direct sun light. And as a transylvanian, Florin will confirm that...

So, just don't put the hangers above the radiators in front of the window. :o)
 
One suggestion about hanging your instruments (I've done it for a number of years): when installing the hangers, I've found it preferable not to use the supplied plastic hooks that mount into the drywall. Go to a hardware store, get some longer screws, and mount that hanger into a wall stud. The supplied hardware they give you will work, don't get me wrong, but given the weight of my Warwicks...I'd rather have it mounted on a stud.

LOL, love the vampire joke. Thank you everyone for the advice. I will definitely invest in some good quality hangers. By direct sunlight, does that mean the room has to be dark, or they just shouldn't be directly in front of the window?

No, you don't need to let your instruments in the dark. The best is always, far from direct heat sources, and from direct sunlight. Your instruments don't like rapid changes in humidity and temperatures. I see you live in Rabat, Morocco (nice town, btw, been there once). If you were living in the UK, you would not have to worry about it :) Just make sure that the light is not shining directly on them, raising their temperature too much or causing troubles, that's all :o)

So heavy duty anchors in the wall and no direct sunlight, and everything will be ok :)

One other thing to fear is the marks near the headstock. I've seen so many guitars with 2 marks from a reaction to the padding material. I think the new style padding is supposed to be acid free or Non-Marking but I am always afraid of it. Sorry to be a buzzkill on this subject but I always prefer my bass stay in its' case.

What i'm going to do now is do a test on my Cort :twisted: If nothing happens to it then i'll hang my corvette:d
 
The so-called marks from the hangers is barely visible, and I really can't see why someone being concerned about it :confused: So barely visibile you practically don't even see them!

Oh, and that the bass might be pushed against the wall? Jeez, if you don't drive your car around inside your house/apartment 120 km/h and got you're huge collection of belts with spikes hanging on the wall behind your bass then you should be safe. That's really the last thing I'd ever be worried about when it comes to those hangers ;)
