I saw one of those at Circuit City.

I'm also considering getting one.

I don't think you can beat a laptop
you can stow in your car's glovebox.

think I read that the pc only has 1GB of
memory... Or something like that.

I also had ACER brand at WyoTech, for
use on the motorcycles... Great stuff
man. Never had a problem with them,
and they were lightening quick too.

The problem with virus scanning stuff is that it just tells you you have a virus after the fact. Apple computers try to stop you from getting one in the first place.

that's exactly what avast does. It tells you if a virus is trying to get in and then you can choose to continue or abort connection.

Not just that, I'm finding Safari has issues with Ebay, I sure wouldn't want to try sniping with it the way it sometimes refuses to open pages.
 
Just downloaded Avast, and am in the process of installing it!

Pretty unanimous eh? :lol:

The Circuit City near me is going down the swanny, but they didn't have anything decent. The only reason I can think of to not get one is that it has no disc drive at all. Though you can, evidently, connect an external drive, and it has a lot of software on it already. As you say, for 300 bones, it's a helluva deal, 120 gig hard drive. I already have a Lynksys switch, so connecting aint nothin.

Really?

Safari works fine on eBay for me - but if you're having troubles just download Firefox - lot's of Mac users prefer it to Safari.

I actually don't want to add any new software because I love the security the Apple has, for banking, online purchases (I use Ebay infrequently) and the like. So with the exception of Apple's own updates I'd like to leave this guy alone.

Many thnaks for the suggestion though. I do notice that the Aspire comes with Firefox already installed.

I can assure you - adding Firefox to your Mac is no security concern. Just do it - it's a great browser.

Buy an Aspire if you want to - but don't let it be because you don't want to install Firefox on your Mac.

Well, got it installed, and have to say I'm in love with
it already! Just restarted my system, and love the pre-boot
scanning option! :d

Doog, I'm not going to sit here and try to persuade you
to download Firefox, but I believe it has been proven to
have one of the greater ad blockers/alerts available within
a browser. OTOH, I don't think you can go wrong with the
Aspire either... Like I said, I'm pretty much in love with it
already!

(Great thing with the external bits and pieces, is that you
never have to worry about your private files becoming vulnerable
to hacking, or viral infection, as you can just unplug it from
the USB port! :d)
 
OMG, You know, I have to say, I absolutely can't stand the fact that so many people mislabel common thieves and vandles as hackers, or every malicious thing done with a computer as hacking. That is so far removed from anything remotely real that it boggles my mind that in this day and age it still is so common.

What do we call the guy that digs through a dumpster behind a department store looking for credit card information, then uses that information to buy something freudently with your credit card? A thief. What do you call the guy that writes on walls and breaks your car windows and destroys stuff purely for the fun of it? A vandal. What do we call the guy that breaks into your home or car and steals your pocessions? A thief or burgular. So why is it if these things are done using a computer do we call them a hacker?

Calling every cyber criminal a hacker is like calling all Arabs a terrorist. The fact is, most these bozos out there using their computers to cause trouble and/or commit crimes can't even open a computer up and change out a hard drive. In the truest sense of the word, the first time you modded a bass you became a hacker. The first time you opened the hood of your can and took off the stock Rochester carb and replaced it with a Holley, you were a hacker. Thomas Edison was a hacker. Bonnie and Clyde were bank robbers, just because someone uses a computer to do that today doesn't make them a hacker, it makes them bank robbers.

No, it's not hackers out there trying to break into your little home computers and vandelize you websites or steal your personal information, it's the same common criminals that are out there in the real world trying to ripp you off or hurt you in some way. Now they just use a computer as a tool just like they might use a lockpick to open the door of your house or a slim jim to unlock your car door. No, hacker and hacking is just a term picked up by the media in there desperate need to force everything into a few second sound bite. They care little about what the terms actually meant or the people they were doing harm to but misusing those terms, all they cared about was their ratings.

Ok, I'll stop ranting now....
(Gee, aren't you glad I got this extra day from the phone company ;) )
 
Actually yes, that makes a lot of sense, and it's true. Call a spade a spade, don't mince words. Kinda like white collar crime. for some reason it's okay for an exec to steal, but not a regular Joe.

Reminds of the time I spent in Texas. I steal but I'm not a thief, I'm a Christian. Labels, you gotta love 'em.
 
I have been using Kaspersky Internet Security for several years. I ocasionally scan with AdAware but I can't find any problems :)
 
Have had Avast installed for the past two days, and I'm really diggin' it!
