Virus Scanning Software...

I was wandering what the majority of you guys use?

I'm running XP, and am looking for some good suggestions.

I actually used to use AdAware, but am not sure if it's
still one of the top free programs out there.

Input? Comments?
 
Are you after only free stuff?

AVG is a pretty good free one. I used to use that, but at the moment I have a McAfee subscription that came free with my computer, and it does a fine job :)
 
I've tried over 20 anti virus, to only find the best one is Avast. Lightweight, free, easy to use and it does the job best. Only downside, it updates every 2 or 3 days.
 
Antivirus wise i got bullguard with my pc and it does an ok job. Firewall i use is comodo which is free and is the best i've used.

I also like NOD32, when my subscription runs out for bullguard i'll probalby be looking into avast.

I've been using Macs pretty much forever, since the iBook G3 clam shell with the bright purple cover.

Grape laptop. :D
 
lol... I think we had those at my high school!

A buddy of mine's dad worked on the G5 Project.
Apple gave him five of them! :eek:
 
I like and use AVG even it's free version is a great antivirus. It updates itself sometimes daily and I actually like that because that way your keeping uptodate agains the lastest in viruses. that is my only complaing against McAfee is that sometimes they can be a little behind the update curve and the potential to get hit with something new before they put out an update is a risk I don't like taking. Not to say McAfee isn't good, it most certainly is, I just perfer AVG. No experience with Avast, so can't give an opinion.
 
my home pc (i use a laptop) has managed to pick up the Zavi B Trojan virus.....McAfee didn't stop me from gettin it but it cant seem to get rid of it either!!!
 
There are viruses for Macs BTW. You just have to install them yourself. Evidently lots of people do. Last one was disguised as a free rip of I-office 09.

Hackers can't seem to get past the Mac's security, so the prey on something weaker. It's owner's greed, the desire to own something for nothing. Smart little bastards aren't they?

I think it has lot more to do with the facts that they are more used to work on windows programming and that there are far more pc users than mac.
 
On Vista I use Avast
On Linux, I use... Wait, I don't have to use an AntiVirus :twisted:

And that the OS is based on Unix, Apple don't give out their operating codes etc, etc..

The problem with virus scanning stuff is that it just tells you you have a virus after the fact. Apple computers try to stop you from getting one in the first place. That being said I am thinking of getting a Windows based computer, Mac OS blocks a lot of stuff you might want. Right now I like the Acer Aspire 1, for portability.

What exactly does OSX block that you might want?

I don't have any trouble.
 
F'rinstance, some things in pop-ups might be wanted.

Okay the Aspire is a cool little deal. I'm looking to justify buying one.
