truss rod rplacement

ive just got hold of a streamer jazzman - secondhand. upon getting it and setting it up i oticed a greater 'bow' in the neck than on either of y fortress basses. So i set about tweaking the trsuus rod to straighten it up, it was stiff but did turn then 'snap!!!!' broken truss rod!!!

SERIAL NUMBER OF THE BASS IS: D12436506 so i guess its a 2006 model?

Any how, i had tis a long time ago on my '93 fortress and was a ble to buy a replacement truss rod direct from warwick, and replace it myself, so ithought the same would be true here!?

Ive totally slackened the rod but cant seem to get it out of the neck - is it possible? if so HOW!???

I'm hoping it can be replaced 'cos i dont want to have to buy a new neck!!

Your Jazzman most certainly has a non removable 2-way rod.
 
You can not buy a new neck, they are not sold separately. You MAY be able to send your bass back to Warwick to have the neck replaced. Otherwise you can buy the rod from the webshop or a Warwick dealer that carries it, and have it replaced by a good luthier, who will have to remove the fingerboard then reattach it.
 
any idea which truss rod i need, ive had alook on the shop page and there's two lengths listed! 580mm and 630mm ? cheers
 
I really don't know, a wild guess would be 630mm since for the alloy rod, it's the only length available. We should wait for the moderator's response. ;)

how long does it take for warwick to reply to emaiils?? sent inquiry about the neck but not hear anything yet!!

I'm a proud owner of a Streamer LX 5 string broadneck bolt on s.n. H - 086676-01 . The bass sound ( or better,sounded ) great but yesterday , after a string changing and while I trying to straighten the neck , the truss rod is broken.... I'm desperate .... the bass it's not playable now due to the bow in the neck ..... what can I do???Is it possibile to change the trussrod or I must change the entire neck??? And how many cost the two options??? Which are better???

Hi marco,
How do you know your truss rod is broken? Did it make a loud snapping sound while you were turning it?
It might just have been unscrewed to the point that it wont flatten the neck. It happened to me once. About a dozen turns 7 it re-engaged & all was well. Or, there might just be a little freeplay in it.
Dont panic, ok? We'll get this sorted out ASAP.
Fill us in with all the details & we can go from there.

Yes , a loud snapping sound ;this is what I'have heard.Now the truss rod turn"empty", it doesn't work and the neck bow cannot be corrected ....

I think it's obvious the rod's snapped & is going to need a replacement, which will be a 2-way rod that needs fingerboard removal.
I dont think this actually warrants an entire neck change, & while it sounds like a major operation, it's well within a good guitar tech's/ luthier's everyday work.
I recently spoke to a tech that did this exact same job. He had to heat the whole neck overnight, then steam it, while slowly prising the fingerboard off. The end result was one very satisfied,happy & not very much poorer Thumb NT4 owner. I dunno what the final price turned out to be, but it would've been a sound investment. These basses are like family to us, so when one needs some of the ol' TLC, it's a question that hardly needs asking. Am I right?
So you're in Italy. I'm sure there are many fine luthiers not too far from where you live. Ask for an assesment & quote & if it seems a little high, try another one. Or, alternatively, you can send the bass back to Warwick & let them do the job instead.

Greg , many,many thanks for your support .... but my question is : how much cost a good luthier x hour???Is it worth it?Work does not seem easy but certainly very laborius :Warwick can change the neck ( it's a bolt-on ) with 174,40 euro...and then I will have a brand new neck.
What do you think about Greg???
 
How recent was that price of 175 euro for a neck chage? ive till noe heard back from warwick, but i think if that price is right then its a lot cheaper than getting a kuthier to strip fingerboard etc - ive had a quote of £300 - £400 for that to be done!!

anyone know the poce that warwick do charge for eplacen the entire neck!??

Greg , are you sure??? 174 euro only of labor for change a neck it's a theft!!!! They say"plus the price of a bolt on neck ( only if we get the defective neck back ! )" . I understand this is the price for a new neck if you get your old back ... or not???
 
just had a look on their literatutre and yeh it looks like its 174 euro just for the labour!!! so theres the price of the neck to add on to that - whatever that works out at!!! ouch!!! oh well itlooks like it'll be cheaper for me to have a luthier take the board off and replace the truss rod!! shame, i eally fancied a new neck instead!

Hi Marco,

No, it means we replace only defective necks with the same neck as original. A lot of people could buy cheap fretless Warwicks then switch the neck to fretted or something like that. We don't do that :-) So the only way to be sure of that is to have the defective neck.

We only replace the neck to original.

About labor work it is simple... That's how much the labor costs at Warwick. The neck will be changed by the same man that in the same time will make a new one ;-)

But I think your distribuor can help you with that, as he might be able to buy the neck from Warwicl.
