Top wood pricings without ash backside?

hey there folks,

i was wondering how to calculate the prices for the topwood if the standard model is let's say bubinga already and not ash...

the other way round, what if the standard body is ash already and i wanted different woods for backside and top.

how do i go about it?

if you want a top, the price in the list include a ash back, even if the original model was ovangkol or bubinga, for instance... If you want a back, you have to pay the same price as a top of the wood in question...

For instance, take Thumb NT. If I want a flame maple top the price will include a ash back. If I want the bubinga for the back, I'd have to pay the same ammount as for a bubinga top for a bubinga back...

Makes sense?

uh, that means i end up paying for two ash backsides even though i don't have them in my final bass?
 
we'd need the final word from Gregory or florin on this, but it's what I understood from the pricelist and from previous discussions...

Oh ok.

It must be a bummer to get a Flamed Maple top for your Thumb NT with a Bubinga Pommele bottom.........Ouch..... :x
Then again, people should be punished for not wanting the standard Bubinga Pommele. :lol:

Thanks Jan, you´re really helpful. It´s written like this on the pricelist: "Backside 1" or 3/8" solid wood: the price is the same as the top wood surchages (available for all models)"
 
so what if i wanted a zebrano top on a corvette bubinga std and keep the bubinga backside...
would i only have to pay the top or top and new bubinga backside?

In this case yes, you have to pay for both wood species... We have to use another calibrated bubinga as the one we use for solidbody thickness. That means something to change in our building process... Special attention, more time to spend, and of course this costs extra money.

then a question for you Gregory:

The price for a top on a Covette is for a 3/8" top. the back would also thus be a 3/8" thickness, right?

Surely a Corvette is thicker than 6/8"? what happens to the middle of the body? does one get a free ash center ?
 
For a Corvette, you have to know that with a 3/8" top you will loose this arm bevelled edge because it´s not thick enough. So if you want to keep this ergonomics edge choose a 1" top version. If you want a custom wood for the back you have to choose one of the available tone timber in the solidbody wood section.
 
So does that mean on a bass that normally has a sandwich body you could just change the bottom wood?
Could you order a Streamer Jazzman with a Cherry back, leaving the flame maple top and the rest of the bass the same and only have to pay for the change to the back wood? That would make sense right?

Thats awesome news! I really wanted a Streamer jazzman before, but now, I wont be able to sleep! :shock: *Starts saving for second CS Warwick*..lol

Hey Dimorph, the bass in the link has a 3/8 top.
Basically a 3/8 top is a laminate, that wont really affect the tone of your bass too much, i think...
1 inch tops are basically a sandwich body construction, the different top wood
has a major effect on the tone of the bass.
