To sell or not to sell!!

Hi, this is my first post so please bear with me!

I've owned a Warwick Streamer for the last 17 years or so and I am considering making the step up to five string.
Two questions, what do people consider to be the best Warwick five string and if I decide to part with the Streamer to finance the change how much would I expect to sell it for? It's in pretty good nick other than a few dings and scratches around the base of the body. Serial number is D1941 89.

Hello Nicko, and welcome to the forum. I don't know, but I'd keep that bass.
First of all you have a long and nice history together... Second... this is a pretty rare bass, some would say it is a vintage, and third, you will not get the money it deserves, IMHO

You should try a few basses before buying one. Most of us are saying that the Streamer Stage II, and the Thumb 5 NT are the best 5 stringers. SSII is nasal, "in your face" growl, and Thumb NT is dark, "in your stomach" growl
Of course you can buy a SSI, who is a nice ballanced clean bass, very versatile, and with a killer slap sound. Too many options here mate, you have to spend some time to find your right bass :-)

I agree with Florin on both counts: keep the bass; and try before you buy!

Quite apart from the vintage thing with your current bass, maybe it would be good to keep it as you'll then have a 4 string and a 5 string (when you buy one) in your arsenal.. you never know what circumstances may arise when you need something different!
 
Thanks guys, seems that my Streamer is probably worth more than I realise!! :shock: :o

Think I might have a re-think on this then and probably try a 5-string in the lower price range. :)

Keep the 4 stringer. It's good to have both 4 strings and a 5 strings. Especially when it's a nice bass such as yours.

Look in the classified sections. There's been a couple of vintage streamers being sold if you want to know how much you can get for it.

For a 5 strings, The SSII is a great bass, if you want to spend less, the Corvette Standard 5 is great too.

Totally agree. Another good argument not to sell the 4 stringer, is that you never know whether you're going to totally dig a 5 stringer. I know many people who switched back to 4 string basses after playing a 5er for a while. 8)

I totally agree, i have both 4 and 5 string basses (Warwicks AND Fenders) and frankly i would part the 5 string types sooner than the 4 string ones, why? because 4 string basses are easier to play (in my opinion) and the e string generally sound better on a 4 string than a 5 string.

but on the other hand, it i always a question of taste right? :roll:
 
I'd keep it, there's definitely a learning curve for 5 bangers. I'm still at the very tip and have been playing for 475 years on 4 strings. I like both, and will get the hang of the 5, but I sure wouldn't sell that sweet Streamer.

If money's a real object (and it is for most people) the RockBass Fortress 5 is a helluva nice bass, and used ones can be got for very reasonable prices. I got my 2004 5 stringer for well under $400 US.
 
Ypu should sell that bass. I'll give you $50usd right now! :D ...
 
I'd also say to keep that one. If price is an issue, might I suggest the Corvette Neckthrough 5st? Excellent value and nearly half the price of a Thumb or SS2... just a thought :wink: ~M~

Even if price isn't an issue, the vette $$ Bubinga neck through 5 will provide an excellent amount of versatility to shape your 5 string style with. If you don't like it, at least you didn't blow ALL your money on the 5 string.

And if you were planning to get a Thumb NT or an SS2 and had the money, then buying the vette will leave you with a great bass, and loads of spare cash for say... another Warwick!
 
I'd keep it.... But then again I'd only sell a bass if I needed cash REALLY bad (life threatening bad)
