Sam is so forum_no_life (no offense :D) he could be moderator, he also knows alot of stuff. And yeah would like the option where everyone can change the colours for their self, just like in chatbox :lol:
 
Maybe a little color here & there, some red maybe? or lighter blue? Make 3-4 variations for users to pick from?

Only joking. I love the black, but I would help create a new skin for others, if only I had any coding skills to speak of... hope someone can help.

  • Can you make the database server a bit more stable? Seems to be crashing frequently.
  • Can you fix the chatbox so it doesn't log you off all the time, meaning it would keep refreshing infinitely even without clicking it every 5 minutes?

Bonus:
  • How about we finally make the new forumite poster reality? :P
  • Let's design a custom forum bass. Start with a brainstorming thread and gather the realistic ideas and then everyone could vote. Lotsa nice specifications and stuff. Would be loads of fun.
  • Maybe some virtual events or theme weekends or something every now and then, would be cool. I offer myself to organize some quizzes on the chatbox. Need to plan a little first though :P

just by browsing the "bass" forum, i have to agree to the things stated about the "clubs". Most of them are pretty inactive threads, maybe worth preserving b/c of their nice pics - but I have to scroll down almost 2 pages to get to the first new thread. Really don't like that.
Just too much stickys in that category.

Overall I also find there's too much sub-forums here and it's all a little overkill. I rarely visit all of the forum, because it's just to anoying to browse it.
I know I could only read "new threads" - but I'm not too interested in all of them, either.
So maybe we should merge some of them?
Clips section, e.g., is a great thing. But pretty inactive, due to the fact it's all the way down. Also a lot of people are just posting their clips in the cafe, and no one is really bothered by that... so either a more clear/strict line in the posting/moderation, or why not merging them.

Also the tips&tricks section is pretty nice, but seems quite dead. Maybe moving music-theory/technique practice as one forum in the "general" categories and other tips like bass-setup either in customer support or leave them at the bass category, same with tips for amps. General recording questions may occure from time to time, but I don't know if we really need an own sub for that. There's other recording boards specialized on that, or even google - and for just questions about the forumer's opinion anyhow people used the cafe.

That's, at least, how I feel about the current forum - but I like it the way it is, nevertheless.

Oh, ... the header of the forum is not really nice and +1 about the crashing database servers. that sucks.

and to add something about the main warwick page: these pop-down menus suck. really. i need like 2-3 trys to get to the category I want to, and it's also getting even more crowded. that needs urgent change, imo. not suitable for such a big company. good navigation is the most important part for a page with that much information and content!

Bojan, I tried to kill the vintage subforum, and I had a lot of complains,a nd I put it back :-)

The thing is that people can find what they need faster with those. For example - Tips and Tricks" is a cool forum to browse :-)
 
yeah I understand that - I just feel that the forum sometimes feels quite a sleep for few days. i.e. not much "hot topics" and not a lot of different people interacting in those threads either.

By merging sub-forums you'd maybe lose some overview, but you'll bundle the activity. More different people would browse the same topics, therefore maybe see more threads they are interested in, too -> more activity in those, means more overall activity, seems more attractive to people maybe just lurking....

That's just how I think it works. This place is great, but sometimes I feel like missing some aspects of other people's opinion, because... they are not posting it ;)
 
I am a member of several forums, both music-themed and not. Some of them are based on Vbulletin like this one, and divided into a host of subforums, while others follow an older design that jumbles all threads together on one miscellaneous page.

What I do with the former is, I tend to skip some subforums altogether, because they look uninteresting to me, and there aren't enough hours in the day to read through everything on the off chance that someone may have posted something fantastically interesting or enlightening on the threads contained therein.
What it do with the latter (the all-on-one-page layout) is, I skip some threads, either because I know what the posters on them are like, and I know that I don't want to read what they say, or because I really am totally uninterested in the topic. Once again, there isn't enough time to check for any gems hidden in those unappealing threads.

Either way, my experience is that most forums have a huge number of lurkers compared to the number of active posters, and that no layout tweak can change that. Many more people enjoy reading others' opinions than do expressing their own on a public forum.

Personally, I don't mind it either way, but in the case of specialist forums like this one, I believe that sub-threads are probably preferable to an all-encompassing mixed bag of a home page.

one thing is people like lurkers, another is losing possible active members. we're full of 1-10 post people that stopped after short time. I'm speaking for myself - I won't browse clips section in 1/10 visits to the forum, and only putting the custom shop together with the framus cs, and therefore getting it positioned on lower half of the page almost completely stopped it's activity, imo.

those things are much more important, than obvious. people are studying marketing and placement of text and topics in prospects not without reason ;)
now you only get people REALLY interested in those subforums. that's nice... for a knowledge database, but not for an active community.
 
I would like a way to include clips from sondcloud.com (and others too, if possible!) directly in posts. This is a site about music and audio, after all.

Oh, and an Android app! Look at the talkbass one for inspiration.
 
Siderocks and I asked about an Android app weeks ago, no body listened...
