Hey all,

A friend of mine has a passive Corvette standard 5 string, which he really doesn't ever use so for the past few months basically given it to me, until he wants it back/wants a price on it.

I believe it's a '97, and he's now asking for £500. Does that price sound about right to any of you? Thing is, I could do without spending the money, but I've grown quite attached to it now!

You're asking us if you should buy a Warwick... Hmmm....

What answer could we give appart from: Yes! go for it!

500 is a little on the steep side, I'd offer 450... Nice Wenge neck!
And it's gonna be quite a different animal than your all-maple NT vampyre!

The only thing important here is if YOU want to give 500 for it :-)
 
I got my Fortress 1, passive, 4 string, all wenge neck for $600 USD, including a TKL case. That Vette looks to be in a bit nicer shape. Wish mine was oil finished rather than satin, but so it goes.
 
As a kind of compromise you could always go without it for a week or so, if you yearn of it then get it? if your friend would let you do that ofc!
 
I've grown quite partial to wenge necks. I would pull the trigger on this one.
 
500 is steep for a vette only because the used market is in the trash for Warwicks. The bass is wholly worth that much if not more. Do it if you like it!
 
A lovely condition 5-String active bubinga 'vette was sold on basschat yesterday for 350 GBP!

Obviously this is a bit more of an exception but it still shows the low(ish) prices for used wicks. For 500 you could pick up a tasty Thumb.... I wish I could!

I think Warwick prices have actually started to climb lately.

I've watched 5 different NT Streamers on eBay achieve not less than £850 (correct £850 was the cheapest), 6 mths ago you'd have been lucky to achieve anywhere near that.
 
Thanks so much for the replies everyone. To be honest, I'm not sure if I'm going to pull the trigger on this one unless I can get the price down to £350 - £400 considering that the typical value on the used market is much lower and it's not like the instrument is in perfect condition. Nice chip off the side of the 2nd fret, and a few notable scratches on the body too.

Still, I really like how it feels so... we'll see. I'll keep you all posted!
 
My Fortress doesn't have scratches, but the satin finish is kinda glossy in places and it smells like cigs. Yeah, I have learned to live with it, don't want to Febreeze it.

Don't know what 600 bones US is these days in pounds. I did get a TKL case that's in really good shape, got the Dolphin in it now.
 
Keep an eye on ebay and see what price similar 'vettes go for, then decide from there.

Does sound quite a lot though, like Bundacious said you could probably pick up a BO thumb for the same - or maybe even less!

Though i did just buy a corvette $$ for £430...
 
£500 is too much, £350 is more like it!
