Thumb NT/Stage 1 sound difference (with mp3s)

At first I though the Thumb........but that SS1 sounds soooo sweet! 8) Please post a more full track! It left me wanting to hear more of the song I now have in my head. :D
 
I'm not going to post the unfinished song on a public forum... but if you PM me I may give you a link to a full version of a rough mix, as long as you promise to keep it to yourself ;)

BTW Scott, your bass collection sounds familiar - 5 string thumb NT, 5 string Streamer ;)
 
Good job Octopus , Cool groove , i love it .
Personaly i would have take off some mid to the thumb and give it a little bass.
AS the opposite i would have take off some bass at the streamer.
For me the thumb has super low-mid and mid that 's why i like it as a fretless .
The streamer has fantastic bass and treble but you always have to take care not to put too much bass if you don't want to get lost in the mix.Especially with heavy's guitar saturation.
That's how it sound with my hears :lol:
I hope we 'll be able to listen to your final choice pretty soon.
 
I'm with whomever said that just when I was getting into the song, BOOM it ended. I too prefer the Thumb tone to the Streamer. The Thumb is just thicker, fatter, and heftier. It sits well in the mix and just gutpunches you. The Streamer is smoother and had tighter initial attack on the notes, but not as thick, rich, and robust sounding. A tad thin in the mix.

Methinks I would choose the Thumb for an ensemble setting but the Streamer for a soloist.

I'm a Corvette fan, though, so I'm semi-objective:P
 
Both sound great, but I prefer the sound of the thumb based on what I'm hearing from my little computer speakers here at work. I'm definitely going to listen to these at home on proper spearkers though. Great groove!
 
For me, the reason I prefer the thumb is that it has a more unique sound to the streamer (esp. the stage 1) the thumb sounds like a thumb, while the streamer could be any number of other basses IMO, but I do understand that sometimes a producer just isn't looking for that thumb tone...

But thats why you have both right! Hopefully I'll be in the same situation soon...
 
I found the Thumb crisper and more articulated but not overbearing. I think it sounds loads better.
 
Let's not forget that Bassoctopus had the treble almost full on on its Thumb, becouse that's the way he likes it.

It could have been much growlier with the onboard eq. deactivated
 
They both sounded great! I prefered the thumb sound myself the way it was. It's very NT5 but not too overpowering on the high end. Very nice, ther should be more "hear my short clip" submissions.

I might dig you guys out another snippet of the thumb in it's element a bit later tonight.

One more clip for you, of the thumb being played as it should be :cool: I love the sound of this bass :)

Again, just a rough mix, so you only get a little bit!
