Thumb NT 6 recorded acoustically with mic

I recorded the thumb with a cheapo condenser mic at about 7-10 cm from the body of the bass. Factory EMPs. No eq, compression or fx were added.
This is the pure sound of wood :)
sorry for the crappy playing, Meshell and i have only known each other for a day :)
 
Hehe, cool! I didn't know you could get that much tone and bottom from an unplugged electric bass. I will consider to experiment with this recording technique on our next CD-recording :-)
 
The thumb kinda suprized me with sounding so good acoustically because i tried the same technique a while ago on my squier telecaster guitar and the mic didn't really pick up much. The thumb on the other hand, resonates like hell :twisted:
 
:idea: Try squashing your ear up to the back of the neck & hit an open string.Then do this to every bass you pick up & see if there's a difference.
 
:D i am pretty sure that i will not find a more resonant bass in town - or a heavier one, that's for sure :lol:
Yesterday i got to know the DARKSIDE of Meshell 'cuz i accidentally dropped her on my right foot. The bass is ok, relax - it's built like a tank - but my toes aren't - they're swollen like hell and slowly turning yellow :lol:

In the back of BP August edition there's a story about a combo falling off a chair onto an $80,000 300 year old Italian upright,breaking off the scroll(headstock).
Then a guy from the audience bought in his upright,handed it to the guy,but he was standing eight feet away.So that went crashing to the floor & ended up in several pieces.
The good news?The Italian bass is being repaired.
It doesnt say what happened to the other though.

yah really, that is just really, really bad luck, i mean imagine a hellborg cab toppling down on u'r favorite warwick
