Thumb BO value?

I posted about my recent find of an as-new Thumb BO. I've noticed the selling price on Musician's Friend and a few other sites as being $2,159 for a new one. Is that pretty much the going price for new ones? I purchase mine for $1,150. While it was technically used, it was in all aspects used. The gig bag had all the stickers and didn't have any wear, the polishing cloth was still sealed up, the wax was unused and all of the paperwork was in the binder. I've bought a new boxed Corvette in the past and I can tell you that this one was in the same condition. Does $1,150 seem like a good deal for me? The reason I ask is that I've seen some used ones on line, supposedly in great condition, for $1,000.

Reassure me that I got a good deal.

Sounds like you got a like new bass at a great price. I will never buy new again. Espicially not at the new prices. You just can't beat the price break you get on a clean used Warwick...

I got ma a Thumb BO 5 around that same price 2 weeks ago and that was an 06 in literally mint cond. I was missing the manuals and all the other stuff you get with them. I only got the bag, wax and guig bag. The guy even gave me a brand new tin of wa instead of his used wax one.

You raise an excellent point Jay. The disparity between used prices and new prices for Warwick's should be something that the brass at Warwick should be thinking about. I got an excellent condition 1998 Thumb NT 5 with the more desireable wenge neck for under 2K. How much does a new Thumb with an ovangkol neck go for now? Over 3K??

I got an excellent condition Thumb NT 5 with the preferred wenge neck for under 2K. How much does a new Thumb with the ovangkol neck go for now? Over 3K??

GC just quoted me a Thumb NT 5 for $2600. Not sure if the neck was ovangol. I had already bought my Vampyre for $2059, but the Thumb (new or used) is next on my list when my wallet recovers its hit points.

:shock: is right but that's retail though. How much would you have to pay for a new Thumb NT 5 where you live Thirdthumb? I have the good fortune to have Chuck Levin's Washington Music Center in my neighborhood, they quoted me $3,000 in 2007 for a Thumb NT5 with a "custom" wenge neck.

P.S. - I paid only $1600 at Chuck's for my Vampyre Darklord which goes between $2159 and $2059 at GC. :wink:

A very cool concept and a great bass, I love it too!
