I would love to hear your thoughts on the differences between the SS1 and SS2 4 strings.

If any of you are lucky enough to own both how about a sort of comparison review?

I think in this specific case the tone difference is mostly due to the different woods... the maple of the SS1 should be much brighter and more "conventional" sounding compared to the SS2 which should be more focused in the midrange and growl more... the SS! is a slap machine (so I've heard)

Check out this vid from J.B. Carbou, playing his 6 string SS1. Awesome sound and very awesome playing. You can clearly hear the totally different sound of the SS1 compared to basses like the SS2 and Thumb, indeed, due to the full Maple neck and body.

Awesome Deal, and the Wenge neck :) Too bad I'm in europe and already have a SSII :)
But made in 1999 and still a wenge neck? Does it have the volute?
 
Yep, and a JAN2 apparently. Something of a crossover model I guess. Wish I could get it... :roll: ~M~
 
my 1998 SS2 looks exactly like that one. I got it a year ago on guitarcenterauctions.com. Mine doesn't have the volute though. The only thing I wish it had was a brass nut, which I plan on installing in about a week.
