The Heads Up Thread

They’ve been responsive, and sent all kinds of helpful pictures when I inquired about the string spacing. I asked them if I could see a shot with the serial number, and haven’t heard back yet.

The only thing striking me as being sketchy is that there’s another listing under a different account with almost identical photos. 🤔

Yes, that does sound strange… proceed with caution!

@DougK It's very common for there to be multiple sellers, selling the same gear from Japan. No idea what the story is, if they really are different sellers, or just trying to sell stuff quicker with multiple accounts, who knows, but I personally would proceed with extreme caution when buying something that has multiple listings.

As for your question if all those pics are of a real Warwick, without question, yes... It's an LX5 broadneck. Ovangkol neck, JAN2 with standard broken clips... all lean towards 2000 - 2004ish. I'm no Streamer expert, but probably in that region. Part of the serial is barely visible...back of headstock.

I think you could do much better holding out for one in North America. That one seems a bit....blah. Nothing too special lookin'....and 8 people seem to own it already 🤣

I did a little reading, and i guess it’s common practice in Japan for sellers to find high-end items on domestic for-sale sites like Facebook marketplace and yahoo, and then list those items on eBay. They purchase from the local source, and then ship out to the foreign buyer.

I’d definitely prefer to buy within N. America. I just took note of that one, as it’s one of the least expensive Streamers I’ve seen in a while that wasn’t a Rockbass.

Seems like Pro Series and upwards have all climbed in price lately. With no Canadian Warwick distributor at present, and CAD weaker against the US dollar than usual, pricing here has been pretty bananas.

I’m mainly looking out for a 5 string fretless, but that LX caught my eye. I’m a big fan of the 20mm string spacing, and you don’t see it nearly as often. And to be honest, I’m a sucker for natural finish on a bass. I dunno why, but I’ve always gravitated to basses with just an oil finish. I like instruments that look like coffee tables. 😀

I've been looking for an 88 bass for a while but International sales to the UK aren't as easy. Can you see on those images that it has had a neck break?

my guess:

Contacted the seller already. he explained - as far as I understood (his German „broken“)- that the bass „dropped“ 20 years ago, but has been repaired..

I think he does need money…dropped price to €850,- cash and does not ship (which would be fine for me). However, no interest in broken/repaired Warwick

Yes we've had discussions but 1500 + 25% taxes and shipping etc make it too pricey
I decided to part with my 1986 Streamer. Also one with a cracked neck. The first repair was awful, I had my luthier redoing it. Seems to be solid now. I would let it go for 750,- Euro plus shipping. But only to forum members.

This reminds me of that one being sold in Nijmegen where they literally lowered the entire headstock :')
Would you advise against shipping this bass because of the crack?

If the luthier knows what he is doing, and the repair done correctly, the glue will be stronger than the actual wood, so no worries in shipping it, unless there is an other un-repaired crack etc…
