The Heads Up Thread

What sort of bag? Like a zip lock with 'em tossed in like raw sausages, or more of the paper bag with just the tips sticking out?

I’d say more of a vacuum sealed sachet bag for long storage over time. The benefits outweigh the zip lock. Keeps the d1cks flavoursome in and around the mouth.

Kind regards,

5-string Masterman. Dinged up a little, but at $600 and free shipping in the US I'm very tempted to buy it for no good reason

That one is relisted, something went south with the previous sale.

Any idea what year that is and what the neck wood is?

I would really love to have a cheap Corvette with ovankol neck and a body not from bubinga so that I can cross-switch with my existing one and do useless microoptimization research on wood species.

FWIW my research genes took over and I got this one. Cross-tests to specifically find out how Ovankol and Wenge compare sound-wise incoming.

Still wondering what the body is made of.

I like it. I really like cheap dumb heavy Corvettes.

The only thing that bothers me about ovangkol is I think it feels too smooth. I prefer the rougher grain of Wenge. Soundwise I think the neck wood will play only a minor part in the overall tone. Much more is decided by pickup placement and brand.

I know what you mean - ignoring the texture of the wood itself, if Ovangkol was a finished maple neck, it would have a satin finish, and if wenge was a finished maple neck, it would be a heavily worked in gloss finish.

If you were to post a very high quality video of the same bass with different neck shaft woods, it would be a video this forum, and perhaps the bass world, would debate forever.

Imagine that - the same few licks played on the neck/both/bridge pickups, with the same pickups, settings, body wood, strings and fingerboard wood. The only difference would be neck shaft wood.

I do that sort of thing all the time, but it is more difficult for Warwicks. Audio only through audio gear. I record every pickup change, string change etc.

Ovankol feels stupid, I knew that before. It also looks like that beaten Corvette might have gotten a light layer of some finish at some point. But hey I wanna know how it sounds. This one also has interesting pickups with the hex poles (DiMarzios?).

If you like your Thumb to have inlays then this might be for you... though the price is eye-watering!

It's a nice thumb but it'll never sell at probably half that price! Some hopeful people in this world.

I almost a bought a 6er!
Thumb BO luckily it sold for £780
If it had stayed under £700 I would be having a serious conversation with myself about wtf I'd just done

Woah. If it wasn't for the stupid bridge and the local pickup only...

I wouldn't say stupid bridge. Looks good in black ;)
