Which Warwick has the most growl?

I tried to put as many of the models up without going ridiculously over the top. The message board program caps me off at a certain amt.

Please don't vote for yours just because "I like mine." Please be honest. Thank you!

After all the Warwicks I have tried (And I've tried 'em all except for the Dolphins) I have come to the conclusion that the Thumb NT is the most growliest Bass. The one with the least growl IMO are the Streamer Stage I basses, mainly because of the maple neck, and the Katana NTs but you didn't include those.
 
The growliest one I have played was a standard bubinga 5 string vette. Keeping in mind that I have only played streamers, BO thumbs, and vettes...
 
You can't class the thumb NT and BO as the same instrument in this poll. ;)

From my experiences the thumb NT is the daddy of growling basses, and I agree my Stage 1 isn't particularly growly :)
 
Gotta be careful here. I once asked for advice on making my thumb NT5 growl and I thought it was strange that I was the only one probably ever to note a lack of growl. Anyway, after recording myself jam on my thumb I realized that it had plenty of growl, the problem was that this bass plays so clear and clean that through the air I was hearing fret click and that warwick bell tone mixed in giving the growl a liquid -metalic tone. I really don't know why this bass does what it does but I never heard any other bass do it like that. Warwick or not. My fna jazz 5 delivers a dryer more raunchy growl which I also appreciate. Better or worse is a matter of taste and what you need but out of the 6 -7 models I have played these 2 do it great but differently. Warwick 4 life.
 
I've owned All models and in my opinon the Streamer Stage II 5 stringer from 1992 that I owned was CLEARLY the bass with the biggest GROWL........

Tried them all.

IMHO the king of growl is by far the Thumb NT (4 or 5 strings)
 
well, i cant tell for any of the others, but my, a streamer lx 4, aint realy growly at all, unless i have misunderstod the meaning of growly.
 
Whenever I hear a growl that makes me sit up and take a look at what bass is being played has always resulted in a Thumb. That's why I haven't rested until I've got one!
 
To me, Stage 2 and Thumb NT, I've never played them but I heard them on records and they groooooowl !
 
I played a bunch of Warwick, but an old FNA not Jazzman, but FNA made me want it. It had so much deep dark growl. I'm guessing the Wenge neck had a big part to play in that. The bass that always makes me jump is the Thumb NT also.
 
Thumb 5 NT here too.But there's no Infinity!!!Ya can't have a growl poll without the Infinities.or can ya? :P
The word,"growl" can mean different things to different people as Ian pointed out.I love the fact that us Warwick people have a generic word to describe our sound.That's cool. :wink:
 
Thumbs either the big daddy of growl NT or its son BO

I recently ordered a Streamer as I see it as the most balanced soundwise and most comfortable bass of the Warwick line. LX because I prefer bolt-on sound over NTs

But the next on my list is a Thumb If my current metal project turns out successful enough.

Then some day... a BO TCS Infinity :roll:
 
I've played a Thumb BO, a Corvette $$, and own a bubinga Corvette Standard.

The Thumb was easily the growliest of all the basses. No matter where I set the preamp tone controls, it growled enthusiastically.

My Corvette has an unmistakable Warwick growl, but it's smoother and more refined. I love it. Whether I'm playing grimy metal or smooth R&B, my Corvette has character.

The $$ was the least growly and when playing with the coil taps, I was able to coax not only some sweet single coil tones, but a bootylicious, thick, pillowy, thump. Very versatile bass, but I'm not much of a knob fiddler. I'm a "set it and forget it" type of guy.
 
My Vamp was growling all the way home from the store, I had to keep it in a cage and it is still chained to the ground when I don`t use it.

The Thumb NT and BO both growl, make no mistake about it, but you cannot put them in the same catagory.

I've really only played Thumbs & Corvettes, and have listened to various Streamers & Jazzman FNA's. My favorite is the Thumb NT, and I have a seriously warped fetish for my NT5, to the point where I worship it, bogart it. It is like the Turbo Porsche that you only sneak out of the garage on "special days".
It has a sound that I had been chasing for a long, long time.
 
I'm more of a punch and warmth guy when it comes to tone (and it shows in my basses), but I still think this is a great topic. Personally, I didn't care for the high-end of the Thumb that I owned (2001 LTD), but it had hands-down the most low-end growl I've heard from a Warwick. My FNA Jazzman (2002 LTD) had a more well-rounded tone, but had very little growl.

:lol: I agree to some extent, but I'll compare it to the S2000 in my garage that I find myself standing and looking at far too often, even though I've had it for 3 years!
