Stuart Zender

Hehe...I don't know about this....a spliff never goes amiss when jamming with strangers!

Everything in moderation.
Then do it it to death.

Zender in Singapore

Don't think he was there to perform, sounds like he was just there to chill.

Check this out:

yea. i thought he was though. would have been nice to hear him jamming out a few tunes.

Someone told me at his level playing covers was taboo. But anyhow i don't feel that he was obliged to play so i'm alright with it. still, it was nice seeing someone i've heard play on a record in person. 8)

Stuart Zender is the best bassist ever. Period.

(Actually my favourite, not the best...)

Stu? Stu? Is that you? ;)

Yeah, I have to say he's been a massive influence.

Word to Big Bird. He's the reason I started playing and practicing every day. Learning his lines has helped me a ton... he's a good instiller of funkiness.

What's all this about him changing from warwick to a precision???? :?

I wouldn't think for a second that Stu has become one of those egotistical guys. I think a picture says more than a thousand words and that being said I think that the footage of him in the "Cosmic Girl" video is the best impression of his character that you can get (him nearly shitting his pants while sitting next to JK in the car): he's a shy guy who doesn't really want to be in the lime light but it's always other people who put him there.

BTW. This has been on my mind lately: I recently watched the Space Cowboy video again and was wondering about the color of his 8-string Streamer. Is it burgundy red or something else? Any information would be appreciated.

Yup, burgundy red:

Hey, Lex, I've been meaning to ask you about your custom basses. I'm sure they were inspired by Stu's?

The white one definitely... more so for the LEDs; before that though was Prince's Thumb bass and Larry Graham's moon basses... the real inspiration behind it.

Oh, right, didn't think of that. Perhaps Stu was also inspired by Prince.

Anyway, I might be able to get my hands on a Stage I like the 8-string above, except a 5-string. I've been lusting for a SSI for a while now, and if I'm lucky (knock on wood [haha, get the joke?]), I could have it in a week or two.

That is, if I get the job I was promised...

You won't regret it, they are lovely basses.

I have a 6-string on the way... can't wait for it to arrive.

Yep, I was planning on getting an upright, but those plans went to hell...literally an hour or so before I got to the store where I had found a nice one, it had sold. It was a one time deal, and prices went up after new year, so ordering a new onw would not only take about 3-4 months, it would cost about 40% more as well.

I've realized I'll always be more of an electric bassist than an upright. There is something about the bass guitar that moves me in a way the upright doesn't. I've been listening to Traveling Withouh Moving all day long, and those basslines are among my top basslines ever.

I can imagine it now...grooving away on Alright with a Burgundy Red SSI...oh, the bliss!

I came to the same conclusion not too long ago! :)

Thanks for the fotos Lex, great help. I'm guessing that if I ever get the money together for a Custom Shop bass I'm gonna have them build me that exact same one.

It's an eight-string, don't forget it.

That's the beauty of it ;)..... come to think of it, did Stu ever really incorporate the octave strings into any Jamiroquai songs?
