...All the way down.
I had been looking at my baby the past couple
of days, and noticing some dark spots. Most
would probably attribute it to the wood, but I,
knowing what I know, know that this was the
result of dirt, grease, and other types of build-
up finding a home in the layers of wax atop my
Maple 'Wick.
So, with a little elbow grease, I cleaned'er up.
Now, the pictures I snapped, aren't what most
of you are expecting, I didn't want to do a "how-
to" because, you all know there's A LOT of those
here, and everywhere else on the web. Then
again, I didn't do a "What not to do" either. What
I did was snap a few pictures I usually don't see
within a "how-to" thread.
So, without further adieu...
Here's the typical display of fret nastiness which
is very common in our world of bell brass:
Here's a few pictures of the nastiness that builds
up along side our pickups, anchor, neck and bridge
from on-schedule sessions of 'Waxing our 'Wicks'.
Here's a picture of the refinishing process on
the Wenge fretboard. [Note: I used a "0" steel
wool pad, going along the frets to remove their
tarnishment, and with the grain on the fretboard.]
And a picture of WHY you want to cover you
pickups by any means possible when doing a
project like this WITHOUT removing them.
And here's a picture of the body, half waxed,
half scored. I know, it's pretty hard to tell. Can
you tell which side is which!? (Pickups and knobs
stuck in place for the picture.)
So, sorry for the crappy picture quality, I've
got those low wattage pinch-a-penny bulbs
in my office, which is where I did the job today.
(Not to self, vacuum really well tomorrow.)
I was going to take a picture of the debris that
comes from the bass when you take the finish
down with steel wool, but didn't snap one for
some reason.
Anyway, project was very easy given the fact
that you know how to assemble.disassemble a
guitar. I was able to even take a few blemishes
in the wood from when this was a floor model.
Overall time was a scoshe over two hours.
I did just about the same thing most of you, and
everyone else does when doing the job, just thought
I'd snap a few different pictures than other do.
