So like most of you guys I'm sure, my dream bass is a Streamer Stage II. I just dont have enough money to buy it! :twisted:

But I am interested in other streamers too.
The Streamer STD is not my thing...It sounds to sterile to me...I want a bass thats alive.

I like the Streamer Stage I but its usually a bit too expensive as well and I have never played a broad neck so I dont know how that would go over.

Well I happened to stumble across a Streamer Pro-M and it peeked my curiosity. I guess it has a complete Wenge neck? What makes that different than an Ovangkol neck? How do the sound properties between the two vary?

I have tried to read up about this model but there isn't much out there because it is somewhat rare and discontinued.

But what I have read is this bass can get pretty bright sounding...
I'm kind of worried about this. I like a tone that is fat and punchy but cuts through...perhaps with a good bit of Mids. I also like to slap and pop and I'm just wondering if this bass is not really for me. I play with a pick the majority of the time and also have written and am playing more songs with finger plucking, and slap a good bit too. Do you think this bass is for me?

Also I'm worried about it only being active...so if the battery ran out while I was playing a gig or something I would be screwed. How long does that battery last on an active system? (assuming I unplug the bass when I'm not playing it) And on a corvette active model...can I use the pickups without the active system?

I recently got a Streamer Pro-M and it's an awesome bass, I've never tried the SSII so i can't compare them.
it's definitely punchy and cuts through, I'm not sure about the fat part, depends on what you call fat. also, it's very versatile.
Mine has a Wenge neck and i must say that it feels really good, never tried the ovangkol version one but i tried other wicks with ovangkol and to me the wenge sounds and feels better,
not that big difference tho.

Dont worry about batteries,they last years if you unplug when not playing.
Wenge sounds very similar to ovangkol.You'd be hard pressed to pick on from the other.
As always,try one out to be sure.

The Pro M is a great bass, pretty similar with the LX in sound. It is a well ballanced bass soundwise, not too bright. More like fat and punchy...

Oh well, it is exacly like you are describing your dream bass. Nice for slap, cuts through, fat, warm, growly...

I had a Pro-M years ago that I had a luthier-friend de-fret for me. In hindsight, I shouldn't have sold it, because it was a BEAST when it was a fretless. Great tight sound, really cut through well.
 
Does a Streamer Pro-M sound similar to a SSI?

Considering they both have a maple body construction, and active pickups?
 
I'd say no, purely due to the SSI having all maple, NT, and P-J config. I'm sure you can get similar sounds of the SSI soling the jazz pickup out of the Pro M, with a single coil but the inverted P and all that maple really makes the SSI sound imo. The Pro M is not gonna sound as smooth as teh SSI either due to the addition of ovankgol/wenge in the neck - it roughs up the sound a bit :d
 
pickup placement is different. I would say it's more like a modern Musicman type. Look for Seth Horan's earlier work, although that's 'one' sound :)
 
It sounds more like a STreamer LX. Not at all like a SSI
