Streamer LX bargain?

Hello there,
I have just found a very interesting instrument in a local shop. It's a Streamer LX 4-string (non-broadneck!), ovangkol neck, natural finish and I have no clue when it was built. The salesperson will let me have it for 1100 euros, saying the initial price is 1400 euros. The bass looks and feels brand new. I was just wondering if the price is considered really good for this kind of instrument, I can't really put things into perspective since the model has been discontinued (for what, 2-3 years now?). This was the first (non-RockBass) Streamer I layed my hands on, and I must say I was really impressed by the comfortable contoured back and the playability (and the solid sound of course, what a surprise). I was never a fan of the Streamer's looks, but after playing that LX this is really starting to change (what about a Streamer Jazzman or $$, mmm...). I feel I may have found a real bargain for a great discontinued instrument, and just wanted your input on this.
 
I don't know the average Greek prices, but here in Italy new Streamers LX usually sells for less than 1000 euro.
 
"New Streamers LX" sounds like they are still being produced, they were discontinued in 2003! Perhaps the Streamer LXs still out on the market are "new old stock"?
 
that sounds like a decent price. Maybe haggle a bit, knock off a 100 euros of it, or get a decent case for it. Thomann has a LX BN 5 NBK for 1500 euros, and thomann prices are competitive. So I guess 1000 euros isn't bad at all for a LX 4.

On the neck, the serial number's last two numbers should tell you the year, the first letter, the month (A-Jan B-Feb...), I beleive.

I bought an LX in gloss black (which is an extra cost) produced in 04.

I bought it last year with a brand new case for about 750 euro. It was, and still is, in as-new condition.

They seem to go for between £600 to £700 second hand in the UK.

They are an absolutely suberb bass. Loads of sounds available, very versitile. Buy it.

I'm sure you could get a new Streamer LX via CS for around 1000 €. No extra options though, just standard stuff. Next time you go there look at the serialnumber. The last two digits represent the year it was built in and the first letter represents the month. For example A is for january, B for february...
 
Brilliant bass, plays like a dream. the warwick bolt on neck is brilliant.

Mine is a 2005 Streamer LX4, i think they are made when people order them, but went out of "regular" production.
 
Hmmmm, I have found what I consider to be a nice opportunity for a 5-string Streamer LX from a shop in Italy (thanks Mr. Rabble!). My local shop asks about 1500 euros for a 2005 LX 5-string, but I found a 2002 new-old-stock (totally unused as the seller says) for 1000 euros from the italian shop. The reason why I'm not looking for a used bass and prefer a new-old-stock is that I like the idea of an instrument not having been played/abused etc. Although I think most Warwick players are probably really careful with their basses, here's an interesting story that made me even more cautious. Looks like even the "pros" get it wrong:

The other day in that local shop, I wanted to check out a FNA Jazzman 5-string but the instrument was not well setup with the action really high and tuned about a fifth lower. I suppose this could be a good setup for letting the bass stay on a display for a long time without stressing the neck through the strings and the truss rod. They two sellers insisted in lowering the action on the spot, so I could try it out properly. I told them it was not a problem, they didn't have to make any truss rod adjustments cause I really didn't want to normally play with that bass (after all I am a 4-string player up to now and feel out of place with a five stringer. I only wanted to check out the sound of that nasty MM, hehe). Now, the next thing I know, out comes the T-shaped wrench and a couple of fast (!) turns are applied to the rod! Somewhat shocked, I go: "Err, shouldn't you be doing this really gradually and let the neck settle?" (I really didn't want them to stress that beautiful FNA Jazzman with a quickie truss rod adjustment for my sake. After all it takes a good amount of time before any adjustment produces it's final result, I don't know if I'm paranoid with this but I would be much more careful if it were MY istrument). After my hesitant suggestion I get a reply in an almost arrogant tone: "Do you know how long I 've been doing this job?" Now here goes the "best" part: Before the "adjustment" the instrument was almost in tune, we had tuned with an A-whistle. Now, to my surprise, I see the seller starting to tighten (!) the strings. He obviously should have loosened because of the increased tension of the truss rod. Result: a string snaps in our face (thankfully not literally, cause we could have lost an eye or something). The guy obviously thought an octave higher was a good idea. I barely constrained myself from smiling in irony. As you can imagine the two sellers went really silent then rushed off mumbling to replace the string in obvious discomfort. Wow, I just wrote a whole essay on why I prefer the instruments I buy as unused as possible.

I'm expecting some photos of the Ocean Blue LX 5 from the italian seller!
 
Actually the shop I already posted has a burgundy red Streamer LX 5 strings new for less than 1.000 euro: :wink:
 
Actually the price the other guy got me was 990euros and it's in ocean blue finish which I much prefer! :D
 
Hey Mr Rabble. I see that Streamer has 2 x J pickups. Mine has one P and one J pickup.
Do you know if that is a special order ?

The 4 strings version has the P+J configuration, while the 5 strings has the J+J :wink:

continuing from this post... I'm from barcelona, spain (or Catalunya :P ) ... and I am letting me down myself... seeing the prices in other countries... I am going to buy a Streamer LX 6string, natural finish for 1.940 € , and the salesman means to make me a favour.... am I doing right¿? The shop's caltalogue of this zone tells this bass costs aobut 2.300€ more or less, and in that particular shop they make me a 15% of discount from that price. Is all ok?
 
The street price is always lower than the list price, the 'discount' your dealer claims is always applied in every corner of the world.

I'd dare to say that usually the discount is bigger than 15%...
 
I 'd have to agree, a shopkeeper told me yesterday he's doing me a 14% "discount" on a bass I was interested in.
