streamer 1 , what kind of body wood

I just purchased a ss1 from 1987. I am pretty sure the body is not maple. Could it be cherry ?? It still has the one-piece bridge, nice perloid inlays on the neck and some awesomely powerful emg´s. Thanx for any help.

if it has a one piece bridge a cherry body is definatly very possible, some of the first stage 1's used cherry bodies. could you post us any pictures?

If your sure that it isn't Maple then you can be pretty sure that it must be Cherry. Pics are always nice to drool over :D
 
The wood looks very "bland". Any chance of firering the finish up by sanding, oiling, waxing ??

does it get regularly waxed?
 
The guy I bought it from didn´t give it too much tlc. I guess 2nite I´ll restring it ang sand it lightly when the strings are off. Then some good oil and 2morrow some coats of wax. Sound good ??

Cherry usually isn't highly figured, if that's what you're meaning...
 
I know the figuring isn´t too special, but european cherry has very little redish color, while american cherry is much more colorfull. I thought I could fire up some of its original coloring. We´ll see. I´ll post my fruits of labor.

The strap button seems to be in its original place. There are no tell-tale holes that were glued shut.

Photographs can often skew the angle but it certainly looked like the post was pointing back and up!

You can find some waxes which can darken a little the wood color.
Not Warwick Wax, which is pure and neutral.
In furniture care, often they use some waxes with can make a wood more yellow, red or brown.
They are natural products too.
 
The problem is, i´d have to sand it down quit a bit and I am afraid the dust might harm the electronics. The space around the pickups is due to the age about 2-3mm. The sanding dust will get all over the inside. Taking out the pickups is something I have never done, so I´d rather keep my fingers off it. Oh, well... like in real life, looks aren´t everything. The sound is spectacular.
