After 20+ years of bass playing I finally plucked up the courage to attempt my own set up. After HOURS of tweaking AND tweaking! I have finally got the low action that i've always craved. The only problem is that now my usual strings (45's) seem a little sloppy. Obviously loosening the rod will give me more string tension and still an acceptable action but I am reluctant to mess with it having finally got it how I want it or should I try a heavier string say 50's?

Hello nicko. I am trying '50 D'dadarios on my Paul Grey Ibanes in standart tuning and I can't get that huge tension. In the end I just detune the whole bass to D-G-C-F and everything goes OK.
50's in standart tuning = absolutely unplayable for me.
