Stage 1 Question

Hi. I have a chance to grab a Stage I. The thing that threw me off was that it had soapbar pickups. It is a 4 string, early 90s. Did W make these and what does it sound like? What do you think it is worth?
 
If it is with soapbars, and has 4 strings, then it was custom made.

Mine is an Oct 1990 bass (serial # K2870 - 057 90)... I'd be interested to know if this was a limited edition run or an early custom shop?

As a Stage 1 owner... the soapbars sound PHAT

I agree, however I don't know how much of the tone of my particular bass is attributed to the soapbars, how much to the fact that they are Barts, that the bass is maple body, ebony fingerboard on maple neck... Can of worms is now opened again :wink:

And that cab looks like it rocks really hard....
 
Hi Tony :wink: I often wonder whether it is technically a SSI... the NT construction is correct but the body woods/construction/pups are wrong!

Mr R. It does rock, like a big 6x10 can! 2100 watts (handling) 106db (sensitivity) and a footswitchable horn! Yet it only weighs 30kg.... lighter than many 2x10's that I've owned.

I reckon it would be.... SS2 have a hidden NT construction...

That's an amazing weight for that cab. Prolly means good mterial, plywood rather than particle board. I had a 1X15 Peewee that weighed more than that. Oh and that's an awesome Streamer there mate.

i remember when i had to carry around my peavey 4x12".... :(

Man, I fitted casters onto that cab so fast, and for all it's weight it didn't project worth a crap. I also played a gig through some guy's Centurion head and 1X18/2X8 cab and it sounded worse, and that cab weighed over a hundred pounds. Did I ever mention that I hate Peavey gear?
 
heh i thought my peavey amp sounded good until i played through...well.....every other amp i ever tested :oops:

That's because Peewee don't make bass amps for the most part, they're redressed keyboard amps. I used a 60 watt Randall before the 150 watt Peavey, and was really dissapointed at that first practice, essentially no more volume, tone no better, felt like I'd crapped the money down the toilet. When I got the G-K head it really improved things. Unfortunately the cab couldn't handle it and it died right in the middle of a gig. :shock:
