Thanks for the replies. I got a Fortress 5 from some dude on Ebay. I've never touched a 5 string before, should be interesting. I've been wanting an RB Fortress for a while, but other financial obligations got in the way. I got this one because the piccie on the sale showed the most amazing grain structure I've ever seen. Even blows away the demo bass on the RB site. Looking forward to getting it. All the best Dudes!!!

Seriously, I only have traditional 4 string basses, I have no idea what the tuning is on this new machine.
 
Normally the low string is tuned to a low B and the other strings as on a 4 string - EADG, unless you're into de-tuning. Some even have a high 5th string - EADGC
 
Thanks so much for the info, I wasn't sure if the RB has a lower or higher string for the 5 string deal.
 
pretty much all 5-strigs will come with the B as standard but you can put whatever you want on it (with some minor adjustments to the set )
 
Great info guys, I have to get new strings for this thing. Sounds like I'm playing rubber bands.

Just got my first Rockbass... I have been hunting for a fortress ever since I discovered the Warwick basses. Well, since Warwick no longer make new lines of Fortresses and also due to lack of funds :( I thought to give Rockbass a try. I must say I'm not disappointed at all. In fact, I like every bit of it. I like the body and the sound of it all. :) I'm now a happy Rockbass owner. Maybe someday I will find and own a true Warwick Corvette but I really like the body of the Fortresses. I think its time to start building up my piggy bank for a future Custom Fortress from Warwick. Overall, I'm satisfied with my RB Fortress. :D

Couldn't agree more. I love this bass, tastes great, less filling. I'd love a Buzzard, but 6 grand aint happening.

Actually when you think about it, they make real Warwicks with bolt on necks, real Warwicks with ash bodies, real Warwicks with maple necks. The RB Fortress has the same MEC pickups and electronics as the real Warwicks. So with the exception of the Wenge fretboard and 2 piece bridge there's really not much different between this RB and a 'real' Warwick.

BTW befroe anyone throws the 'hand built' thing at me, Warwick do use CNC shapers to make their basses.
 
Alot of the old machines that built Warwicks are now being used to build Rockbasses.The same fretting machine that did my bass is now in China doing RB's for example.
 
That's really interesting to know... A lot of people say that its a hit or miss as always when getting a RB. I guess it depends on the store you buy it from but if the factory in China are using the same machine as of Warwick then (maybe) hopefully people will find a good even balanced RB out on the market nowadays. Maybe in the future they'll start doing some NT or even a 6 string RB. How great would that be!..

Uhhhhh,

this is the first time I hear about this...................And really, I'm into exposing weaknesses if necessary............... :?
 
It's the same really with any bass. The tree didn't grow just right for exactly the sound I was looking for. When you drop 3 grand for a bass it's a lot easier to convince yourself that you can live with the difference. When you buy the 'cheap' line it's easy to point to that as the reason this aint the bass you dreamed of.
 
I guess that's true... Sometimes we get conditioned even before we get to see and try the instrument out. The reason for that hit or miss statement was when before I was researching about Warwicks and RB. There were some reviews that I read that say the RB they tried didn't really what they expected. Some say that the construction isn't good, the neck feels like a baseball bat.. etc. but basically I try to find both good and bad. Then one day I went to GC and tried out the only RB Corvette Basic left, In fact the guy was good enough to reserve it for me but when I tried it out, sad to say I was disappointed. The frets were a little rough and kinda bulky i thought. Then I couldn't even open the electric cover at the back (stuck). Btw, it has that easy access cover and not screws. Anyway, long story short I ended up going home empty handed that day. Maybe i also got conditioned or it was never really taken care off in the store but like they say if you don't like then don't buy. After a couple of week more of searches, I finally found the RB Fortress that I wanted. Hop on the bus and went to the store. Tried it out and now I could say I came home happy. This Fortress I got was really different from the Covette I tried before. Now, I'm really a proud owner of RB Bass. I don't care about the trade mark on the head. All that matters is the feel and sound. Opps! :wink: Sorry for the long winded reply...

See the thing is Dude, we're kinda agreeing with ya. But we're saying it aint Rockbasses that are hit and miss, it's any bass, or guitar. Back when I was younger (try 30 years or so) I Jones'd for only the top of the line stuff. I got a Rickenbacker, and I love it's sound, so do most sound guys, but they generally hate Rics. They all sound a bit different. Wood does grow on trees, as there are no 2 trees exactly alike there won't be 2 pieces of wood exactly alike. So no 2 Rics will sound exactly alike, 1 you may love, and 1 you may hate.

Evidently there was a guy called Antonio a few hundred years ago that could consistently make wood sound the way he wanted. No one has ever figured out how the hell he did it. His instruments currently sell at a starting price of $ 1 million.

His last name? Stradivari.
