RIP Les Paul

Well, there goes a legend...he'll be missed a lot...But 1 thing that bothers me a lot(other than the fact that he's dead, of course) is that even tho he was AMAZING, he barely made the news!! Les Paul deserves much better than that, I mean ppl paid more attention to billy friggin mays dyin than him!! And dont even get me started w/ Michael Jackson!!!!...i hate the media that covers this stuff.... >:(
 
well the media sucks, period... don't get me started.. LOL
 
Les got as much media attention as he wanted. He was fine taking the subway to his Iridium gigs and tinkering with electronics to make his sound (and, by extension, everyone else's sound) better.

Mr. Jackson and Mr. Mays, along with a large number of people, want the adoring fans, the notoriety, the Your-name-here-Mania that can be had being an entertainer.

Different era now. We used to watch a show called Classic Country on PBS years ago. The shows were from the 50's, amazing quality. Featured people like Les Paul, Chett Atkins, June Carter (before she was Cash), Rod Brassfield, Little Jimmy Dickens, Webb Pierce. The whole thing was like that. Anecdotes, interacting with the audience, then do a song. It was a blast. I wonder if they have any of that on Youtube?
 
This truly is the end of an era. If it wasnt for les paul, multi track recording as we know would not exist, the solid body electric guitar would not exist, Let alone the unbeleivable way he played his guitars. You tube some of his stuff from the 50's & you will see what im on about. Listen to his and his wife's version of how high the moon, there are no drums, most of his bass lines were his LP guitars slowed down 50% on tape. The man was a genious. He is with his wife mary now, singing & playing without the arthritus that crippled him in his later years. I collect all his old 78 rpm shelac records as well as quite a number of his 45's as well. I only wish i had the chance to meet him & shake his hand.

Les Paul's guitars are absolutely amazing, my guitarist has a few of them and the qualty of sound is absolutely phenominal.

I read about his life in the paper at my local garage when i was waiting for my car to be fixed, probably was the best hour of my day.

Incredible man, sure he will RIP

Just got done watching a documentary on Les Paul on Hulu. It was done around his 90th birthday and is pretty good.



Oh and when you see the credits start rolling at the end, don't leave there's more a second show starts. Live from the Iridium Jazz Club in NYC.
