ReStringing Question

I'll be restringing the 'Vette today and want to know if any of you have some pointers on how to not mess anything up, such as the nut, or the nut wings. Or even worse, dare I say, stripping the height adjustment screws

If you are using the same gauge strings, you shouldn't have to do any adjustments to the nut or the bridge. If you are using different gauge strings, wait a day or two for the neck to settle and then evaluate whether the current set up is no longer acceptable. As far as damaging the nut and or bridge, if you are not comfortable making the adjustments by all means bring the bass to a shop and have them do it. One other note, depending upon how crazy you get with adjusting the bridge and nut, you can also knock the intonation out.

I stuck flatwounds onto my fretless $$ as soon as I got it home. After letting it settle for I while, I found the set up was still perfect (even for fretless intonation!) The strings were d'addario Chromes (highly recommended by many in this forum) - 45-100.

I wouldn't hesitate to adjust the bass myself if I thought it needed it. All the information you need is in the manual. But if in doubt - choose which strings (and gauge) you want and take it to a pro!

Look back in archieve topics for "just a nut II" and you will find numerous threads of re-stringing tips and suggestions regarding how to "not" break those silly nut tabs from those (to include myself) that have already. Good luck.
