Replacement Neck

How hard and approx. how much would it be to get a replacement neck for a Corvette Standard? The neck I would need to replace is a fretless neck, however the replacement wouldn't have to be fretless. Basically, I am thinking about bidding on a Corvette Standard Bubinga body. The guy is selling the broken neck in a seperate auction. I figure this might be a way of getting a pretty nice looking vette cheap, but that depends on what it would take to get a new neck for it. Also, do I need the broken neck in order to buy a replacement?

So any suggestions or comments appreciated. I have about 2 days to make up my mind.

I believe Warwick only consider doing replacement necks on a one-for-one basis, that is, you send them your mangled neck and they'll arrange a replacement. They don't deal with spare necks... presumably to prevent dodgy geezers attaching them to shoeboxes and then selling them on ebay as original Warwicks.
Some of the other guys, like Greg or Florin, may have more information on this, but I think you'll need both the body and then neck. Personally I wouldn't touch it. It's different if you buy one in good faith and then find the neck's knackered.
 
I think it may be more trouble than it's worth, matey!
 
DBG's,as we all now know,arent gonna be importing Warwick gear for much longer,& they'd be the guys you'd need to work with on a neck replacement.
First,you'd need to send them the entire bass & after they asses the damage & deem it beyond repair,they'd fit a new neck & give you a bill.Coz this damage doesnt look like it's been caused by defective materials &/or workmanship. :wink:
I think it'd be alot more trouble than it's worth Randy.
 
I have about 15 hours left to make my decision and as you all have advised, I'm probably going to pass. I was hoping I could send in the neck and purchase a replacement. Then It would just be a matter of bolting it on the body and setting it all up. I figured if i could get this all said and done under $400, then that would be worth it to me. However, the body and neck is already sitting at $225 (including shipping) so that leaves very little room for a possible winning bid as I figured the neck replacement would be at least $150 (thats doing the actual work myself).

Anyway, thanks everyone for your comments and advice, I appreciate it. Here are a couple picks of the body. So sad, looks like it would make a nice bass for someone that took the time to show it the love it deserves. All basses deserved to be loved!







The guy didn't say how this happened, but not seeing any tell-tale dings or marks on the body or the neck, I would have to guess the neck either got stepped on or sat on. Shame really.

I think the guy selling it would be better to have the neck fixed up himself and then sell it as a whole bass. Whoever the buys the body and neck (seperately) will have the same problem.

Sorry, But no. I passed on the bass and never bought it because it looked like it would be way to much of a hassle to aquire a replacement neck.

If you actually own a bass with a broken neck, you should try as other members advised me. Try Dana B Good's, but since their relationship with Warwick has or is ending, you might not get alot of help. I personally would go to the Warwick site and shoot an email to customer service and let them know your situation and they should be able to lead you in the right direction. Here's a link....

What is the problem you have with the neck, how can we help you?

Thanks for the invite. New to Warwick board. Have a '04 Corvette Standard with a broken headstock. had it repaired but would like to have a replacement installed. Are replacement necks available and if so where can I get one?

We don't sell necks directly, but we will replace the neck if you want it. Contact Hanser as Greg said, and ask them for a quote.

I ordered a new corvette ss 5 with a swamp ash body and an ovangkol neck.
I was emediately in love with the exeptional sound of this bass. But what concerns me much is that the testing bass at the shop had a repaired neck. It had been broken on the point just where the neck goes over in the head. Does this happen more? Is this the problem of ovangkol-necks in general?
