Repair chip on Corvette $$ 4-string

I have a 4-string Corvette $$ (2008 made) with the satin finish, transparent Turquoise over swamp ash body wood.

I managed to put a small chip in edge of the bass, near where my right plucking-hand forearm rests. Now, I know basses are going to get chips and dings from time to time, but...

1.) I've had it for 5 days now. I tote around a Tobias Growler for 10 years and not a scratch, and I hurt my brand new Warwick already

2.) It has the dark turquoise finish, and that bright tan spot where the
wood is chipped away (maybe 1/16" to 1/8" wide with a light white streak near the chip) stands out like a sore thumb and mocks my general sense of 'taking care of my expensive stuff'.

I can deal with the missing wood/chip. I'd REALLY like to match, as closely as reasonably possible, the color so at least the spot isn't so noticable. Does anyone know where I might find this dye, or am I left to experimenting with 'brewing my own' stain using stewmac or constantine dyes. Does anyone have insight into how the bodies are dyed and how the satin finish is applied? I'm only familiar with nitrocellulose and natural oil / waxed finishes.

On my red Jazzman, I've always found the red Sharpie marker to be perfect. On my black Corvette, the black Sharpie worked well. Sharpie make a multipack that has quite a few different shades of blue/green and one of them is bound to be very close.

Obviously you aren't qualified for Warwick ownership. Promptly back up what's left of your poor $$ and mail it to me for safe keeping.


Seriously though, I've tried the Sharpie thing on my sister's Strat and even on my old leather jacket and I've determined that due to stolen alien technology, they can match anything.


Get the multi-pack like Thomas said, I know there are turquoise pens in there. Or hit a hobby store, some have the markers out so you can try them and just buy the colors you need.

Well the sharpie trick worked! I used either the Ocean Blue or the Blueberry (from their limited edition) - not sure which since the markers aren't individually labeled for colour. I think it was the "ocean blue". Anyway, matched the body colour perfectly and it's barely noticable now. I'll keep the whole collection of markers I bought for future fixes!
