Profet 5.1 question

I recently bought a Profet 5.1 and ND 411 (8 ohm), and then I started reading on this fourm that it's bad to do this. Also, I was hoping to buy a 15 incher. What should I do? Do I need to trade in my 8 ohm for a 4 ohm, and can I add on a 1 X 15 without screwing anything up?

If you keep the 8ohms version of the speaker and add a 115 to your setup you should be fine.

+1. Keep the 8ohm version, it means you can add another 8ohm cabinet. Having two 8ohm cabinets will combine to a total impedance of 4ohm, which is the lowest safe impedence for the ProFet 5.1 to operate at. Adding a second cabinet will give you more power from your amp, and greater speaker area = bigger grin on your face!

Jono,I know this question comes way late but is it ok to run a Pro-Fet 5.1 thru a wca 211pro+wca 115pro?I know the impedance is right at 4 ohms but are the speakers ok to run with this amp?Both cabs are 400 watts each.Would the 3.2 be better?

The WCA Pro 611 is 900 Watts RMS in 6 ohms. At this point it is only offered as a 6ohms cabinet. This means that when running it with a 500 Watts Amp or even a lower amp like the 3.2 ProFet, you won't get anywhere near the full range of the amplifier. The WCA 611 Pro is intended to be used with a 1000 Watts amplifier, such as the X-TREME 10.1 or the TubePath 10.1, they provide 1000 Watts RMS of power and with the the 611 cabinet's impedance of 6 ohms that comes down to around 850 and 900 Watts RMS.

You could easily run it with a 410 or a 411 at 4ohms. Or you could use a 410 at 8ohms together with a 210 at 8ohms. We also offer the ND series cabinets, which I also own and I find them to be great. They're very light weight and easy to carry around. We offer a wide range of cabinets in this series also, inclusing a 112, composed of a single 12" inch speaker and a horn.

6 ohms????the catalogue says it's 4 ohms.this is why I'm getting confused,the catalogue says 1 thing,my distributor says another & the music shop I use contradicted them.I want to buy a Warwick amp & cabinet,is it so hard to get a straight,accurate answer.No wonder people give up & buy a combo.

yeh greg it is 6ohms, there isn't a way to wire 6 speakers together in parallel to get either 4 or 8ohms.

In some cases it is viewed as a 2x10 and a 4x10 mixed together in a single cab, each rated at 8ohms. Catch there is that the speakers in the 2x10 section would see double the voltage that the speakers in the 4x10 would see, and would give you an unbalanced cab output.

Yes it is 6 ohms. There are ways to achieve an 8 or 4 ohms impedance with 6 speakers. It just happens that the safest way to wire them is going for the 6 ohms, it's a more balanced input to the cabinet.

Thaks for the reply Oliver,the catalogue I'm afraid confused me as it says different.Anyway it's going to be the profet 5.1 + a wca 411 pro in 4 ohms.It's amazing how many specialists contradict each other,I was told that it's fine to underpower your speakers,ie. I can safely run a 1600 watt cabinet with a 300 watt amp,hence my frustration.

Well, my opinion on underpowering speakers might differ from some people's, but basically, speakers depend on movement to cool down, if you only give 20% of the power a speaker was made for, it might to move as much as it was originally intended to. In the end, this could cause the coils on the speakers to start melting and messing up the speaker.
